This PhD comprises an exploratory study on infants with excessive weight gain during exclusive breastfeeding.<\/p>\n
Human milk intake and composition, blood samples, growth and body composition from birth to 18 months in infants with excessive weight gain were compared to a group of infants with normal weight gain. The excessive weight gain during the first 5 months was followed by a marked catch-down in growth after introduction to complementary foods.<\/p>\n
Human milk leptin was low in the group of infants with excessive weight and was negatively associated with milk intake at 5 months suggesting that human milk intake and composition was a cause of the excessive weight gain.<\/p>\n
