","contributor_image":false}]},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>From 24 June to 28 June, the Copenhagen International Volunteers Club (CIVC) will be running a campaign to collect computers used to help refugees in centers in Denmark. <\/p>\n<p>The organization, which started two years ago, will be accepting donations together with their partners, the IT University student’s organisation StupIT and Studenterhuset.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012 CIVC received a donation of computers from the company CSC, which have been installed with Ubuntu freeware for the use of the residents of the Danish Red Cross’s Vipper\u00f8d centre for unaccompanied minors. <\/p>\n<h2>Hardware crucial to the organization’s activities<\/h2>\n<p>The first step was to provide computer hardware to asylum centres along with courses in basic computer literacy, programming, and website design for asylum seekers who want a future in the computer industry.<\/p>\n<p>With the hardware functioning, CIVC plans on working further with students from the IT Student\u2019s association for a trial summer school in IT skills for asylum seekers as well as further plans during the coming academic year. <\/p>\n<p>“Improved computer skills are an essential element for success in the modern world. Many asylum seekers already have good basic user skills, but many do not and all could benefit from further training in this area.
