{"id":12145,"date":"2013-06-10T09:22:42","date_gmt":"2013-06-10T07:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/?p=12145\/"},"modified":"2017-01-21T00:11:28","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T00:11:28","slug":"today-workshop-on-climate-change-response-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/today-workshop-on-climate-change-response-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Today: Workshop on climate change response policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The workshop is the first event in a three part series titled <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/polsci.ku.dk\/kalender\/pre-event_workshop\" target=\"_blank&gt;The Institutional Design of Response Capacity&lt;\/a&gt;&lt;\/strong&gt;, bridging political science, anthropology, geography, and the life sciences. \n\n''There hasn't been enough discussion between these areas,'' says Theresa Scavenius, an organizer of the event and a PhD student in the Department of Political Science. \n\n''Previous research has come mostly from natural sciences, but social science adds more of a social, political, and institutional perspective.''\n\n&lt;h2&gt;Adapting to environmental change&lt;\/h2&gt;\nA new research area, called response capacity, will be promoted. This looks at how people and institutions respond to information about environmental change. ''Historically, Denmark and other countries have been quite good at responding to climate change.'' Theresa says. \n\nIn the Netherlands, for example, the rising sea level has led to the implementation of flooding and coastal defense policies. Aside from efforts within the natural sciences, these measures reflect societal adaptation in order to adapt to these environmental changes, reports Theresa. ''Many cities in Eastern Europe have experienced higher rates of flooding where they have not yet adopted such policies.'' \n\nThe workshop will discuss how response capacity can further enhance the implementation of climate policies at both a local and a global level.
