A new site with the domain name Penkowa.com has been set up by a group of five University of Copenhagen professors. It is to offer independent insight into the Penkowa case, and to enable an international audience to access a report that previously was only available in Danish.<\/p>\n

The site is already online with the report, an overview of media articles, and calls for a wider debate. See the site here.<\/a><\/p>\n

The scientific fraud case surrounding former University of Copenhagen brain scientist Milena Penkowa is considered one of the most controversial in European academia: A report, independent of the University of Copenhagen, was authored by them in 2011. It was soon superseded by the University of Copenhagen’s own lawyers ‘Kammeradvokaten’ report and an independent scientific commitee study – reports that critics say have deflected responsibility from the University of Copenhagen’s management. <\/p>\n

About how history is written<\/h2>\n

But according to the five professors, Elisabeth Bock, Keld Dan\u00f8, Niels H\u00f8iby, Jens Rehfeld and Niels Erik Skakkeb\u00e6k, their study, now available in English on the website points to facts that have been overlooked and problems that have not been investigated. <\/p>\n

\u00bbOne should be able to see why the Kammeradvokaten [UCPH lawyers’, ed. ] investigation was not satisfactory,\u00ab says Elisabeth Bock.<\/p>\n

UCPH ‘exonerated’ Penkowa<\/h2>\n

The site<\/a> offers access to the an English version of their own May 2011 report on the case with the title: \u2018Report on the University of Copenhagen\u2019s handling of the case concerning Milena Penkowa\u2019s first doctoral thesis\u2019.<\/p>\n

The authors have been known as critics of the University of Copenhagen\u2019s actions during the unfolding scandal, especially in connection with her doctoral dissertation.<\/p>\n

Now, the site writes that \u00bbthe University of Copenhagen has conducted two investigations of allegations of scientific dishonesty\/gross negligence made against Penkowa, but has in both cases exonerated her of any wrongdoing and has even employed her as an associate professor and a full professor as well as putting her name forward for the Eliteforsk award for young researchers.\u00ab<\/p>\n

UCPH communication head interviewed<\/h2>\n

Elisabeth Bock says that she was surprised that the address \u2018Penkowa.com\u2019 was available, and that \u00bbthere were no problems in getting the website\u00ab.<\/p>\n

If Milena Penkowa herself should make a legal claim to her domain name, that is upheld, the five professors will relinquish it without a fight, the professors say.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth Bock criticises the fact that the University of Copenhagen’s head of communications Jasper Steen Winkel agreed to be interviewed in a journalist’s union publication ‘Journalisten’<\/a> on how he handled the Penkowa case. She says that he misses the point, and seems to be interested in deflecting responsibility from the University of Copenhagen management.<\/p>\n

Only answered questions<\/h2>\n

This is ‘pure spin doctoring’, Elisabeth Bock says.<\/p>\n

Head of communications Jasper Steen Winkel says that he only answered the questions that Journalisten<\/em> asked him. They did not ask him about the professors’ report, he says.<\/p>\n

It was soon superseded by the University of Copenhagen’s own lawyers ‘Kammeradvokaten’ report and an independent scientific commitee study – reports that critics say have deflected responsibility from the University of Copenhagen’s management. <\/p>\n<h2>About how history is written<\/h2>\n<p>But according to the five professors, Elisabeth Bock, Keld Dan\u00f8, Niels H\u00f8iby, Jens Rehfeld and Niels Erik Skakkeb\u00e6k, their study, now available in English on the website points to facts that have been overlooked and problems that have not been investigated. <\/p>\n<p>\u00bbOne should be able to see why the Kammeradvokaten [UCPH lawyers’, ed. ] investigation was not satisfactory,\u00ab says Elisabeth Bock.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThe University of Copenhagen has not taken our call for an independent enquiry seriously,\u00ab says Elisabeth Bock. \u00bbThis is about how the history books are to be written.\u00ab<\/p>\n<h2>UCPH ‘exonerated’ Penkowa<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.penkowa.mono.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">site<\/a> offers access to the an English version of their own May 2011 report on the case with the title: \u2018Report on the University of Copenhagen\u2019s handling of the case concerning Milena Penkowa\u2019s first doctoral thesis\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The authors have been known as critics of the University of Copenhagen\u2019s actions during the unfolding scandal, especially in connection with her doctoral dissertation.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the site writes that \u00bbthe University of Copenhagen has conducted two investigations of allegations of scientific dishonesty\/gross negligence made against Penkowa, but has in both cases exonerated her of any wrongdoing and has even employed her as an associate professor and a full professor as well as putting her name forward for the Eliteforsk award for young researchers.\u00ab<\/p>\n<h2>UCPH communication head interviewed<\/h2>\n<p>Elisabeth Bock says that she was surprised that the address \u2018Penkowa.com\u2019 was available, and that \u00bbthere were no problems in getting the website\u00ab.<\/p>\n<p>If Milena Penkowa herself should make a legal claim to her domain name, that is upheld, the five professors will relinquish it without a fight, the professors say.<\/p>\n<p>Elisabeth Bock criticises the fact that the University of Copenhagen’s head of communications Jasper Steen Winkel agreed to be interviewed in <a href=\"http:\/\/journalisten.dk\/penkowa-aff-ren\" target=\"_blank\">a journalist’s union publication ‘Journalisten’<\/a> on how he handled the Penkowa case. She says that he misses the point, and seems to be interested in deflecting responsibility from the University of Copenhagen management.<\/p>\n<h2>Only answered questions<\/h2>\n<p>This is ‘pure spin doctoring’, Elisabeth Bock says.<\/p>\n<p>Head of communications Jasper Steen Winkel says that he only answered the questions that <em>Journalisten<\/em> asked him.
