This is the prison next to a key student dorm, the Otto M\u00f8nsted’s kollegium.<\/p>\n<p>The prison authorities at Vestre Prison have decided to remove all bars and replace them with windows. This is according to newspaper Politiken and Seven59.dk. <\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWhen an inmate is locked in his cell he\u2019s well aware that he\u2019s in jail. Bars aren\u2019t necessary,\u00ab inspector Peter Vesterheden says.<\/p>\n<h2>Windows withstood baseball bat test<\/h2>\n<p>Prison inspector Peter Vesterheden promises that the new windows are just as preventive as bars.<\/p>\n<p>The new, reinforced windows have been tested at Copenhagen\u2019s Technological Institute where \u2018criminal types\u2019 tried to break through with hammers and baseball bats, without success. <\/p>\n<p>Vestre Prison can house around 440 inmates. 580 sets of bars will be replaced with windows.
