Behind its gloomy exterior are excellent laboratories and outstanding research in fields like food science, nutrition, and biotechnology. The plant science researchers recently moved into a flashy new extension \u2014 this is in case you were wondering which research areas were currently attracting funding.<\/p>\n<p>North of <em>Rolighedsvej<\/em>, nature is making a comeback. This is where you\u2019ll find the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resources, nestled in the greenery and greenhouses.<br \/>\n<!-- end of module 1 --><br \/>\n<strong>The vibe:<\/strong> Frederiksberg Campus has its own open, unpretentious atmosphere \u2014 which might have something to do with the hands-on, \u2018farm-to-fork\u2019, disciplines and the kinds of people they attract. Oh, and it might have something to do with the site\u2019s 150-year history as an independent institution, before a 2011 merger split it up and placed some parts under the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, while others were merged with the Faculty of Science. This set off University of Copenhagen bureaucracy at its most absurd and amusing ( \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/the-study-programme-that-is-driving-people-nuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read this article<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/offbeat-locations-at-the-university-of-copenhagen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Offbeat locations at the University of Copenhagen<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Student counselling:<\/strong> Students at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences can find student counselling services at <em>Thorvaldsensvej 40<\/em>. For students at the Faculty of Science, it\u2019s at the other end of campus, at <em>Dyrl\u00e6gevej 10<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading rooms:<\/strong> The library on <em>Dyrl\u00e6gevej<\/em> (University of Copenhagen Library Frederiksberg) is great, though it tends to fill up during exam periods. Fortunately, it\u2019s not *that* far to the KUB North reading room on North Campus, where there are more seats \u2014 and designer chairs.<br \/>\n<!-- end of module 2 --><br \/>\n<strong>Canteens<\/strong>: There are two. Gumle is located in the Tower Block, and Gimle is in an old building on <em>Dyrl\u00e6gevej<\/em> where Louis Pio, the founder of the International Workers&#8217; Association in Denmark in 1871 \u2014 which later became the Social Democrat Party \u2014 once gave a rousing speech. Gumle offers a notably larger buffet than Gimle. If gourmet greens and cortados are more your thing, head over to the caf\u00e9 <em>Hav a Java V\u00e6ksthuset<\/em> in the Agricultural University&#8217;s Garden \u2014 students get 25 per cent off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/save-more-live-more-student-budget-hacks-for-copenhagen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Save more, live more: Student budget hacks for Copenhagen<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Food-related bonus fact:<\/strong> Students and researchers from the Food and Nutrition programme sometimes hand out free samples in the central corridor. You might have to fill in a questionnaire first, but then you\u2019ll get to try five different plant-based dishes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">Frederiksberg Campus<\/p>\n<p>Home to approximately <strong>4,000 students<\/strong> across two faculties, seven bachelor&#8217;s programmes, and 15 master&#8217;s programmes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Coffee:<\/strong> The best cup of coffee at the university is at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Cafe-V%C3%A6ksthuset\/104332742986636\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caf\u00e9 V\u00e6ksthuset<\/a> in the Agricultural University&#8217;s Garden. It\u2019s not free. The coffee at <em>F\u00f8tex Food<\/em> on <em>Rolighedsvej<\/em> is though \u2014 you can enjoy a nice steaming cup while &#8216;doing your shopping&#8217;. Otherwise, there\u2019s self-serve coffee around campus with a trust-based MobilePay system: Filter coffee costs ten kroner with your own cup, twelve without. At the end of the month, you can also bring your own instant coffee and use the kitchenette by the main entrance on <em>Thorvaldsensvej<\/em> \u2014 or stop by the student caf\u00e9 <em>A-vej<\/em>, which is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 7 pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong>: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/test-of-coffee-on-campus-the-good-the-bad-and-the-one-that-tastes-like-tar-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Test of coffee on campus: The good, the bad and the one that tastes like tar<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday bar:<\/strong> Frederiksberg Campus has only one Friday bar: <em>A-vej<\/em> (short for <em>Acaciavej<\/em>, which&#8230; actually, no \u2014 A-vej is off <em>Dyrl\u00e6gevej<\/em>, and <em>Acaciavej<\/em> is just a street nearby. If you weren\u2019t confused before, you probably are now). But the bar is legendary. In beautiful surroundings adorned with historical murals by Danish cartoonist Storm P, cheap craft beers are served in such quantities that <em>A-vej<\/em> is one of the brewer Carlsberg\u2019s biggest customers \u2014 and has even had its own beer glass printed by the brewery. Don\u2019t miss Happy Hour from 6 to 7 pm, when all draught beers (yes, even the fancy ones) are just 20 kroner. Different student associations take turns running the bar, and rumour has it the Crop Science group brings merch when it\u2019s their turn. The Forest and Landscape College in N\u00f8debo north of Copenhagen has its own Friday bar, <em>Fl\u00e6kken<\/em>, in a log cabin in the middle of the forest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dress code:<\/strong> Casual, practical \u2014 reflecting the reality that people are either heading out into the field or into the lab. As one student wrote on Facebook: \u00bbDon\u2019t overdress for your first Friday bar. You\u2019ll feel out of place.\u00ab<br \/>\n<!-- end of module 3 --><br \/>\n<strong>Tucked-away spaces: <\/strong>If you can weave your way through the crowd of mums on maternity leave and their adorable offspring, there are plenty of peaceful corners to be found in the Agricultural University\u2019s Garden. Speaking of tucked-away spaces, in the attic of <em>B\u00fclowsvej 17<\/em> there is a stunning collection of animal skeletons and old agricultural tools.<\/p>\n<p>Pro tip: The former rector Henrik C. Wegener (2017\u20132025) is a graduate of the old agricultural school. In 2025, a memorial in his honour will be unveiled in the Agricultural University\u2019s Garden. The University Post noted at the time that there may not exactly be a shortage of <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/art-experts-puzzled-as-departing-rector-insists-on-outdoor-bronze-bust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bronze statues of men in public spaces<\/a>, but keep an eye out \u2014 and judge for yourself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smoking:<\/strong> There\u2019s a bizarre and artistically designed smoking booth outside <em>Rolighedsvej 23<\/em>. We tried to find out how much it cost, but never got an answer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Off-site facilities:<\/strong> Frederiksberg Campus stretches across a vast area \u2014 from the west Copenhagen suburb of Taastrup, where vet students get hands-on experience at the University Teaching Hospital for Large Animals, to the Forest and Landscape College in N\u00f8debo, which boasts a gourmet canteen (and the largest collection of chainsaws) at the University of Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student life:<\/strong> It\u2019s the student-run clubs that really drive the social scene on Frederiksberg Campus \u2014 across all programmes and disciplines. Consider joining AVF (\u2018Acaciavej Our Association\u2019, which runs the Friday bar), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/jagtforeningenvedkvl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunting Association<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Smediefesten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smediefesten<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/smedierevyen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smedierevyen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/233137556745391\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the LIFE choir<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/192353554200259\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southern Jutland Roots Network<\/a>, or one of the many other groups (you can find a full overview of student-run clubs at UCPH <a href=\"https:\/\/foreninger.voresku.dk\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Online:<\/strong> Join the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/798003220218066\/\">Frederiksberg Campus Facebook group<\/a> and you\u2019re <em>good to go<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Something to look forward to: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Smediefesten\/\">Smediefesten<\/a> \u2014 a two-day banger of a festival each spring, hosted by Frederiksberg Campus, features concerts, draught beer, and grilled food. Tickets cost a bit, but you get log-sawing competitions and gigs from big-name artists, most recently Danish star performers like Sivas, Barselona, and Branco.<\/p>\n<p><em>This first version of this article was written in Danish and published in 2018. Behind its gloomy exterior are excellent laboratories and outstanding research in fields like food science, nutrition, and biotechnology. The plant science researchers recently moved into a flashy new extension \u2014 this is in case you were wondering which research areas were currently attracting funding.<\/p>\n<p>North of <em>Rolighedsvej<\/em>, nature is making a comeback. Otherwise, there\u2019s self-serve coffee around campus with a trust-based MobilePay system: Filter coffee costs ten kroner with your own cup, twelve without. If you weren\u2019t confused before, you probably are now). But the bar is legendary. In beautiful surroundings adorned with historical murals by Danish cartoonist Storm P, cheap craft beers are served in such quantities that <em>A-vej<\/em> is one of the brewer Carlsberg\u2019s biggest customers \u2014 and has even had its own beer glass printed by the brewery. Don\u2019t miss Happy Hour from 6 to 7 pm, when all draught beers (yes, even the fancy ones) are just 20 kroner. Different student associations take turns running the bar, and rumour has it the Crop Science group brings merch when it\u2019s their turn. The Forest and Landscape College in N\u00f8debo north of Copenhagen has its own Friday bar, <em>Fl\u00e6kken<\/em>, in a log cabin in the middle of the forest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dress code:<\/strong> Casual, practical \u2014 reflecting the reality that people are either heading out into the field or into the lab. Speaking of tucked-away spaces, in the attic of <em>B\u00fclowsvej 17<\/em> there is a stunning collection of animal skeletons and old agricultural tools.<\/p>\n<p>Pro tip: The former rector Henrik C. Wegener (2017\u20132025) is a graduate of the old agricultural school. In 2025, a memorial in his honour will be unveiled in the Agricultural University\u2019s Garden. The University Post noted at the time that there may not exactly be a shortage of <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/art-experts-puzzled-as-departing-rector-insists-on-outdoor-bronze-bust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bronze statues of men in public spaces<\/a>, but keep an eye out \u2014 and judge for yourself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Smoking:<\/strong> There\u2019s a bizarre and artistically designed smoking booth outside <em>Rolighedsvej 23<\/em>.
