Staff and students have now had more than six months to get used to the new post-reform reality.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">Half a year with the new administration<\/p>\n<p>On KUnet, you can now read a series of articles where the deputy directors of the University of Copenhagen (UCPH)&#8217;s eight central administrative units take stock, six months after the new administration at UCPH was implemented.<\/p>\n<p>At the University Post, we have launched a similar series \u2014 where we speak to staff and union representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Read earlier instalments here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/education-unit-after-the-reform-uncertainty-is-still-the-order-of-the-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCPH Education<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/administration-reform-universitys-finance-staff-reveal-contrasting-journeys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCPH Finances<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a series of articles on the university\u2019s intranet KUnet, UCPH deputy directors of eight central units share how they have experienced the first few months and provide an update from their area of administration.<\/p>\n<p>The University Post is now doing a similar series, where we instead speak to employees and union representatives across the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>This article focuses on the UCPH Buildings unit, where we spoke to three of the campus officers who keep the University of Copenhagen running. They unlock the doors, collect the mail, and prepare venues for events \u2014 in short, they keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.<\/p>\n<h3>One extra layer of management<\/h3>\n<p>Henrik Sch\u00fctz has been a campus officer at UCPH for many years. Before the reform, he worked on the central CSS campus. Now he covers the central university buildings and the Natural History Museum of Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s plenty to keep him busy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe\u2019re running on fumes,\u00ab he tells the University Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe have more locations to cover, but fewer people to do it. On top of that, they\u2019ve added another layer of management. That doesn\u2019t really align with the whole idea of cutting down on administration,\u00ab he says.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The union made sure my salary won\u2019t be touched, no matter what I end up doing<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Elisa Mary Pedersen, campus officer and procurement assistant at the Faculty of Science<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Where there were once five layers of management to the top, there are now six, he says.<\/p>\n<p>In Henrik Sch\u00fctz\u2019s team there are four permanent staff, but two positions remain to be filled.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe hope to get two new people soon. If that happens, maybe things will settle down a bit,\u00ab he says. He stresses that the team was understaffed long before the administration reform \u2014 so the current challenges can\u2019t all be blamed on it.<\/p>\n<p>In connection with the administration reform, many staff \u2014 including campus officers \u2014 accepted voluntary redundancy offers. This made sure that no campus officers or other staff had to be laid off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/a-working-life-chief-warden-clocks-out-after-35-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A working life: Chief warden clocks out after 35 years<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to Henrik Sch\u00fctz, workload has gone up alongside the number of buildings they have to cover \u2014 and the growing number of events.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThere\u2019s always something going on,\u00ab he says dryly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt\u2019s just one thing after another.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>Sick leave has generally gone up at UCPH during the first six months of the reform. But despite a heavy workload, there have only been a few sick days among Henrik Sch\u00fctz\u2019s colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe\u2019re probably the kind of people who don\u2019t break down from stress,\u00ab he says.<\/p>\n<h3>More uncertainty<\/h3>\n<p>While some say the reform has brought on more stress, for others the main result has been uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>Elisa Mary Pedersen works at the Faculty of Science, where she serves as campus officer and procurement assistant. She is fairly content with post-reform life so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbI haven\u2019t had any bad experiences yet,\u00ab she says.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s going okay, I guess. But I don\u2019t think it was worth all the worry it brought with it<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Frank Johansen, campus officer at UCPH<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For now, her tasks are largely the same \u2014 but she doesn\u2019t know how long that will last:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThey\u2019re talking about centralising the procurement, but I have no idea whether I\u2019ll continue doing what I do now or be moved to something completely different.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>She still has the same manager as before the reform, and still works with the same colleagues. But the lead-up to the reform was exhausting, she says:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt went on for two years, and that\u2019s way too long to be left in uncertainty. We didn\u2019t know if we were going to be laid off or not,\u00ab she says.<\/p>\n<p>When the reform was implemented, many experienced employees opted for retirement \u2014 and actual layoffs were avoided. Things have calmed down now, but the drawn-out process has left its mark.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbI\u2019m taking it easy now,\u00ab she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThe union made sure my salary won\u2019t be touched, no matter what I end up doing. So I\u2019m just taking things one day at a time.\u00ab<\/p>\n<h3>Was it worth it?<\/h3>\n<p>Frank Johansen, who used to work in the central university buildings and is now based at CSS campus, hasn\u2019t seen any tangible improvements from the reform.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt\u2019s going okay, I guess. But I don\u2019t think it was worth all the worry it brought with it.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>He has got new colleagues and slightly different working hours, but his tasks are pretty much the same as before.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbNothing\u2019s gotten dramatically worse or dramatically better,\u00ab he says, and adds:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbYou do have to wonder why so much energy was spent on all this.\u00ab<br University of Copenhagen (UCPH) was rolled out in March 2025. Staff and students have now had more than six months to get used to the new post-reform reality.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">Half a year with the new administration<\/p>\n<p>On KUnet, you can now read a series of articles where the deputy directors of the University of Copenhagen (UCPH)&#8217;s eight central administrative units take stock, six months after the new administration at UCPH was implemented.<\/p>\n<p>At the University Post, we have launched a similar series \u2014 where we speak to staff and union representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Read earlier instalments here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/education-unit-after-the-reform-uncertainty-is-still-the-order-of-the-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCPH Education<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/administration-reform-universitys-finance-staff-reveal-contrasting-journeys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCPH Finances<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a series of articles on the university\u2019s intranet KUnet, UCPH deputy directors of eight central units share how they have experienced the first few months and provide an update from their area of administration.<\/p>\n<p>The University Post is now doing a similar series, where we instead speak to employees and union representatives across the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>This article focuses on the UCPH Buildings unit, where we spoke to three of the campus officers who keep the University of Copenhagen running. They unlock the doors, collect the mail, and prepare venues for events \u2014 in short, they keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.<\/p>\n<h3>One extra layer of management<\/h3>\n<p>Henrik Sch\u00fctz has been a campus officer at UCPH for many years. Before the reform, he worked on the central CSS campus. Now he covers the central university buildings and the Natural History Museum of Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s plenty to keep him busy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe\u2019re running on fumes,\u00ab he tells the University Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe have more locations to cover, but fewer people to do it. On top of that, they\u2019ve added another layer of management. That doesn\u2019t really align with the whole idea of cutting down on administration,\u00ab he says.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The union made sure my salary won\u2019t be touched, no matter what I end up doing<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Elisa Mary Pedersen, campus officer and procurement assistant at the Faculty of Science<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Where there were once five layers of management to the top, there are now six, he says.<\/p>\n<p>In Henrik Sch\u00fctz\u2019s team there are four permanent staff, but two positions remain to be filled.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe hope to get two new people soon. If that happens, maybe things will settle down a bit,\u00ab he says. He stresses that the team was understaffed long before the administration reform \u2014 so the current challenges can\u2019t all be blamed on it.<\/p>\n<p>In connection with the administration reform, many staff \u2014 including campus officers \u2014 accepted voluntary redundancy offers. This made sure that no campus officers or other staff had to be laid off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/a-working-life-chief-warden-clocks-out-after-35-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>A working life: Chief warden clocks out after 35 years<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to Henrik Sch\u00fctz, workload has gone up alongside the number of buildings they have to cover \u2014 and the growing number of events.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThere\u2019s always something going on,\u00ab he says dryly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt\u2019s just one thing after another.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>Sick leave has generally gone up at UCPH during the first six months of the reform. But despite a heavy workload, there have only been a few sick days among Henrik Sch\u00fctz\u2019s colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbWe\u2019re probably the kind of people who don\u2019t break down from stress,\u00ab he says.<\/p>\n<h3>More uncertainty<\/h3>\n<p>While some say the reform has brought on more stress, for others the main result has been uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>Elisa Mary Pedersen works at the Faculty of Science, where she serves as campus officer and procurement assistant. She is fairly content with post-reform life so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbI haven\u2019t had any bad experiences yet,\u00ab she says.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s going okay, I guess. But I don\u2019t think it was worth all the worry it brought with it<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Frank Johansen, campus officer at UCPH<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For now, her tasks are largely the same \u2014 but she doesn\u2019t know how long that will last:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThey\u2019re talking about centralising the procurement, but I have no idea whether I\u2019ll continue doing what I do now or be moved to something completely different.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>She still has the same manager as before the reform, and still works with the same colleagues. But the lead-up to the reform was exhausting, she says:<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt went on for two years, and that\u2019s way too long to be left in uncertainty. We didn\u2019t know if we were going to be laid off or not,\u00ab she says.<\/p>\n<p>When the reform was implemented, many experienced employees opted for retirement \u2014 and actual layoffs were avoided. Things have calmed down now, but the drawn-out process has left its mark.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbI\u2019m taking it easy now,\u00ab she says.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbThe union made sure my salary won\u2019t be touched, no matter what I end up doing. So I\u2019m just taking things one day at a time.\u00ab<\/p>\n<h3>Was it worth it?<\/h3>\n<p>Frank Johansen, who used to work in the central university buildings and is now based at CSS campus, hasn\u2019t seen any tangible improvements from the reform.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt\u2019s going okay, I guess.
