
{"id":19056,"date":"2011-12-12T09:35:43","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T08:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/?p=19056\/"},"modified":"2017-01-21T02:16:12","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T02:16:12","slug":"danish-government-split-after-european-drama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/danish-government-split-after-european-drama\/","title":{"rendered":"Danish government split after European drama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Socialist People&#8217;s Party leader, Villy S\u00f8vndal now signals conflict within the Danish government, reports Seven59.dk and Jyllands-Posten. <\/p>\n<p>S\u00f8vndal claimed that Denmark should not accept everything in the fiscal pact proposed by Eurozone countries to rescue the joint currency and combat the debt crisis. <\/p>\n<p>In an interview with TV2 S\u00f8vndal declined to name which parts of the pact he finds unacceptable, but expressed concern that it could get in the way of the government\u2019s plan to kick-start the economy by bringing forward planned infrastructure investment. <\/p>\n<h2>S\u00f8vndal stands alone<\/h2>\n<p>Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, however, has declined to make any decision on the pact until it\u2019s discussed in parliament this week.  <\/p>\n<p>S\u00f8vndal\u2019s eagerness to exclude Denmark has been seized upon by the opposition as confirmation that he\u2019s unable to separate government policy from partisan party politics. <\/p>\n<p>The Liberals&#8217; policy spokesperson, Ellen Trane N\u00f8rby, expresses that it\u2019s not in Denmark\u2019s best interests to have a Foreign Minister who&#8217;s more interested in satisfying his left-wing political base than thinking about what\u2019s best for Denmark.<\/p>\n<h2>Danes now against euro<\/h2>\n<p>In a parallel development, Danes are now against the Euro more than ever, writes Danish newspaper B\u00f8rsen. <\/p>\n<p>The paper recently conducted a survey showing that 69 per cent of respondents are against the Euro, while only 24 per cent are for it replacing the Danish Krone. <\/p>\n<p>In September 2000 the Danes were asked to vote for or against the Euro at a general election.
