Does your student grant barely cover more than your rent? Would you still like to enjoy some culture, but have no room left in your budget? Fear not. Copenhagen\u2019s cultural scene is thankfully generous, and you\u2019re in the unique position of being able to enjoy a wealth of cultural experiences for next to nothing \u2014 all you need is a student ID or the right age.
\n<\/p>\n

Museums \u2013 the budget-friendly option<\/h3>\n

September is just around the corner, and if you\u2019re an avid museum-goer, week 37 is one to remember. From September 7\u201313<\/strong>, 2026, the annual K7 Week<\/a> takes place, giving anyone under 28 free admission to almost all museums across Denmark. And if one week of free museum access isn\u2019t enough for you, K7 also offers both half-year and full-year<\/a> passes you can invest in. A half-year pass costs DKK 349, while a full-year pass costs DKK 600, giving you access to more than 50 museums in and around Copenhagen. If you have a regular museum buddy, you can also share a half-year pass for DKK 500. Participating museums include Arken, Glyptoteket, Designmuseum Denmark and Copenhagen Contemporary.<\/p>\n

Louisiana<\/strong> isn\u2019t on the list of K7 museums, but there\u2019s still a way to save money. The otherwise somewhat pricey, but highly acclaimed, art museum offers a student discount. For DKK 260, you and a friend can share an annual pass<\/a> to the museum \u2014 the same price as two student tickets. The pass also gives you 10% off at the caf\u00e9 and museum shop. The museum is open until 10 p.m. on weekdays, so if you want to avoid the worst of the tourist crowds and families with children, you can take a peaceful evening trip to Humleb\u00e6k and wander around the exhibitions (almost) undisturbed.
\n<\/p>\n

The Free Ones<\/h3>\n

If you really don\u2019t want to spend any money when you\u2019re looking at art, there are still plenty of options. On the last Wednesday<\/strong> of every month, admission to Glyptoteket<\/a>\u00a0is free. And if Wednesdays don\u2019t work for you, The David Collection<\/a> offers free admission to everyone, every day of the week. Among other things, you\u2019ll find the largest collection of Islamic art in Scandinavia here.<\/p>\n

You can also check out some of the University of Copenhagen\u2019<\/strong>s own museums \u2014 several of them offer free admission with your KU student ID. At the Medical Museion<\/a>, the history of science is put under the microscope. If you\u2019re less interested in test tubes and more into beautiful old buildings that look like they belong in a Harry Potter film, you can visit the University Library<\/a> in Fiolstr\u00e6de.<\/p>\n

If you feel more at home among plants and animals, a ticket to the Natural History Museum<\/a> costs just DKK 50 for students (less than half price), while a visit to the Palm House<\/a> in the Botanical Garden<\/strong> costs DKK 40 for students.<\/p>\n

The National Gallery of Denmark<\/strong> also offers free evening admission six Fridays a year, inviting different artists and cultural communicators to take part. It\u2019s called SMK Fridays<\/a>, and while it\u2019s often very popular, it\u2019s definitely worth experiencing. Keep an eye on their website for the dates.
\n<\/p>\n

A Trip to the Theatre?<\/h3>\n

If museums aren\u2019t really your thing, why not head to the theatre? If you have the right age, you can catch a show for less than the price of a cinema ticket. The Royal Danish Theatre<\/strong> offers the Ung+ subscription<\/a> for everyone under 25. For just DKK 110 a month, you can go to the theatre as often as you like. The subscription covers all of the theatre\u2019s productions, whether it\u2019s drama, ballet, opera or musicals. And if you\u2019re lucky, you might even score some very good seats for next to nothing.<\/p>\n

The only catch is that you can\u2019t book tickets more than 14 days in advance. So if it\u2019s a particularly popular production, Ung+ might not be the best option to rely on. The Royal Danish Theatre also offers a 40% youth discount on all performances, meaning you can often see a show for less than DKK 200 if you opt for the cheaper seats.<\/p>\n

If you and your friends want to see a show together, it\u2019s also worth looking into group discounts<\/strong>. Many theatres, including Betty Nansen, N\u00f8rrebro Teater and Teater Republique, offer youth discounts for groups of six or more who buy their tickets together. You\u2019ll pay just DKK 75 per person for a performance. And if you can\u2019t find five other people willing to join you for that slightly unhinged monologue, most theatres also offer youth discounts of around DKK 75\u2013100 for anyone under 25.
\n<\/p>\n

Entertainment<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re into classical music, the DR Concert Hall<\/strong> offers a 50% discount<\/a> for everyone under 30 on many concerts featuring its own choirs and orchestras. You can also keep an eye on DR\u2019s website,<\/a> where you can sometimes sign up to be part of the audience for DR\u2019s live broadcasts,<\/strong> such as Debatten, a Danish political debate programme.\u00a0If you\u2019d rather have a good laugh, Comedy Zoo<\/a> offers around 15% off drinks and selected shows, making for an evening that\u2019s both funny and easy on the wallet. The discounted tickets are limited, though, so you\u2019ll need to book well in advance. Fortunately, there\u2019s no such rush when it comes to the drinks at the bar. Keep in mind that these events are held in Danish.<\/p>\n

If your entertainment doesn\u2019t have to be live and you\u2019re an early riser, the Grand Teatret<\/strong> cinema offers morning screenings<\/a>. For DKK 75, you can catch a film between 9 a.m. and noon on weekdays \u2014 and Grand even throws in a cup of coffee.
\n<\/p>\n

Food and Drink<\/h3>\n

If your idea of culture is something you find at the bottom of a cold pint, but you don\u2019t want to blow your entire student grant on a single beer, head to Studenterhuset<\/strong>. As a KU student, you are automatically a member,<\/a> which comes with some pretty great perks. You get 25% off everything sold at the caf\u00e9, bringing the price of a draught beer down to around DKK 35. The taps feature both good old-fashioned pilsner and a selection of craft beers.<\/p>\n

And while you\u2019re already at Studenterhuset, why not check out some of their activities<\/a>? They offer dancing, concerts, film screenings and language caf\u00e9s \u2014 pretty much everything you could ask for, and it\u2019s all free.<\/p>\n

If craft beer is your particular passion when it comes to culture, head to V\u00e6skebalancen<\/strong> on Bl\u00e5g\u00e5rdsgade. They offer student discounts<\/a> on selected draught beers and also host weekly quiz nights. In general, it\u2019s always a good idea to keep your student ID<\/strong> in your pocket, as many bars and caf\u00e9s offer student discounts \u2014 better to ask once too often than once too little.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re after a cheap meal but can\u2019t quite be bothered to cook it yourself, there are options for that too. Folkehuset Absalon<\/strong> hosts communal dinners every evening. For DKK 75<\/a>, you can fill up on tasty, often vegetarian food while sharing a table with plenty of other people. Tickets tend to sell out quickly, though, so make sure to book in advance.<\/p>\n

A similar concept can be found at Send Flere Krydderier,<\/strong> which hosts community dinners<\/a> at N\u00f8rrebrohallen and the Union cultural centre. Studenterhuset<\/strong> also hosts Community Kitchen<\/a> a couple of times a week, where you can get a portion of dinner for just DKK 35.
\n<\/p>\n

Activities<\/h3>\n

If you need to get out and get moving but are a little put off by the price of gym memberships, check out KU Studenteridr\u00e6t.<\/strong> They offer a wide range of group classes,<\/a> and you sign up for a full year at a time. You can do everything from Pilates and CrossFit to climbing and Kung Fu. But be ready when registration opens, as spots in the most popular classes tend to disappear quickly.<\/p>\n

The Municipality of Copenhagen also offers annual swimming pool passes<\/strong> for DKK 600<\/a>. The deal is aimed at early birds, though, as the pass can only be used during what they call \u201cGreen Hours\u201d: from opening time until 3 p.m. on weekdays, and during the first hour after opening on weekends.<\/p>\n

If you have a little songbird in your chest, there are several options. For example, KFUM&K<\/strong> runs the F\u00e6llesklang choir<\/a>. It costs DKK 250 per season, provided you are a member of the association. There are four choirs in Copenhagen, but you\u2019ll have to be quick, as most of them have waiting lists. There are also student choirs<\/strong> across the different faculties, which you can read more about here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You often don\u2019t have to go any further than your own campus<\/strong> to find free and exciting events. The different faculties are home to a wealth of student associations<\/a>, organising everything from debate nights, book clubs and open-mic nights to running clubs, film clubs and political associations. Every now and then, you might even get lucky and find that an association has managed to secure enough sponsorship money to cover dinner as well. And if you can\u2019t find exactly what you\u2019re looking for, you can always start your own association. You may even be able to get some financial support from your department for your dream project. Culture is something we create together.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t Forget the Newspaper<\/h3>\n

If you want to keep up with what\u2019s going on in the world and appear just as clever and well-read as your fellow students, most newspapers offer substantial student discounts. And if you\u2019ve already emptied your pockets on all the great cultural deals and are thinking: Surely I can\u2019t afford a newspaper too<\/em>, don\u2019t worry \u2014 you can always read The University Post<\/strong> completely free of charge.

And if one week of free museum access isn\u2019t enough for you, K7 also offers both half-year and <a href=\"https:\/\/tilmeld.k7k7.dk\/\">full-year<\/a> passes you can invest in. A half-year pass costs DKK 349, while a full-year pass costs DKK 600, giving you access to more than 50 museums in and around Copenhagen. If you have a regular museum buddy, you can also share a half-year pass for DKK 500. Participating museums include Arken, Glyptoteket, Designmuseum Denmark and Copenhagen Contemporary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Louisiana<\/strong> isn\u2019t on the list of K7 museums, but there\u2019s still a way to save money. At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museion.ku.dk\/en\/forside\/\">the Medical Museion<\/a>, the history of science is put under the microscope. If you\u2019re less interested in test tubes and more into beautiful old buildings that look like they belong in a Harry Potter film, you can visit <a href=\"https:\/\/kub.ku.dk\/english\/fiolstraede\/\">the University Library<\/a> in Fiolstr\u00e6de.<\/p>\n<p>If you feel more at home among plants and animals, a ticket to<a href=\"https:\/\/snm.dk\/en\"> the Natural History Museum<\/a> costs just DKK 50 for students (less than half price), while a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/snm.dk\/en\/udstilling\/palm-house\">the Palm House<\/a> in <strong>the Botanical Garden<\/strong> costs DKK 40 for students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The National Gallery of Denmark<\/strong> also offers free evening admission six Fridays a year, inviting different artists and cultural communicators to take part. If you have the right age, you can catch a show for less than the price of a cinema ticket. <strong>The Royal Danish Theatre<\/strong> offers the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kglteater.dk\/sceneplus\/ungplus\/?srsltid=AfmBOopxmwf6cVySbyBEhxVH0zG6L9CNMMWYOLpZIhjh8TyKckeaztE4#\">Ung+ subscription<\/a> for everyone under 25. For just DKK 110 a month, you can go to the theatre as often as you like. The subscription covers all of the theatre\u2019s productions, whether it\u2019s drama, ballet, opera or musicals. And if you\u2019re lucky, you might even score some very good seats for next to nothing.<\/p>\n<p>The only catch is that you can\u2019t book tickets more than 14 days in advance. So if it\u2019s a particularly popular production, Ung+ might not be the best option to rely on. The Royal Danish Theatre also offers a 40% youth discount on all performances, meaning you can often see a show for less than DKK 200 if you opt for the cheaper seats.<\/p>\n<p>If you and your friends want to see a show together, it\u2019s also worth looking into <strong>group discounts<\/strong>. Many theatres, including Betty Nansen, N\u00f8rrebro Teater and Teater Republique, offer youth discounts for groups of six or more who buy their tickets together. You\u2019ll pay just DKK 75 per person for a performance. As a KU student, you are <a href=\"https:\/\/studenterhuset.com\/en\/\">automatically a member,<\/a> which comes with some pretty great perks. You get 25% off everything sold at the caf\u00e9, bringing the price of a draught beer down to around DKK 35. The taps feature both good old-fashioned pilsner and a selection of craft beers.<\/p>\n<p>And while you\u2019re already at Studenterhuset, why not check out some of their <a href=\"https:\/\/studenterhuset.com\/en\/calendar\/\">activities<\/a>? They offer dancing, concerts, film screenings and language caf\u00e9s \u2014 pretty much everything you could ask for, and it\u2019s all free.<\/p>\n<p>If craft beer is your particular passion when it comes to culture, head to <strong>V\u00e6skebalancen<\/strong> on Bl\u00e5g\u00e5rdsgade. They offer<a href=\"https:\/\/vaeskebalancen.dk\/vaeskebalancen-bar-bottleshop-blaagaardsgade-koebenhavn\"> student discounts<\/a> on selected draught beers and also host weekly quiz nights. In general, it\u2019s always a good idea to keep your <strong>student ID<\/strong> in your pocket, as many bars and caf\u00e9s offer student discounts \u2014 better to ask once too often than once too little.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re after a cheap meal but can\u2019t quite be bothered to cook it yourself, there are options for that too. <strong>Folkehuset Absalon<\/strong> hosts communal dinners every evening. For <a href=\"https:\/\/absaloncph.dk\/en\/food\/\">DKK 75<\/a>, you can fill up on tasty, often vegetarian food while sharing a table with plenty of other people. You can do everything from Pilates and CrossFit to climbing and Kung Fu. But be ready when registration opens, as spots in the most popular classes tend to disappear quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The Municipality of Copenhagen also offers <strong>annual swimming pool passes<\/strong> for <a href=\"https:\/\/svoemkbh.kk.dk\/billetter\">DKK 600<\/a>. The deal is aimed at early birds, though, as the pass can only be used during what they call \u201cGreen Hours\u201d: from opening time until 3 p.m. on weekdays, and during the first hour after opening on weekends.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a little songbird in your chest, there are several options. For example, <strong>KFUM&K<\/strong> runs the <a href=\"https:\/\/kfum-kfuk.dk\/faellesklang\/\">F\u00e6llesklang choir<\/a>. It costs DKK 250 per season, provided you are a member of the association. There are four choirs in Copenhagen, but you\u2019ll have to be quick, as most of them have waiting lists. There are also <strong>student choirs<\/strong> across the different faculties, which you can read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/foreninger.voresku.dk\/?s=kor\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You often don\u2019t have to go any further than your own <strong>campus<\/strong> to find free and exciting events. The different faculties are home to a wealth of <a href=\"https:\/\/foreninger.voresku.dk\/english\/\">student associations<\/a>, organising everything from debate nights, book clubs and open-mic nights to running clubs, film clubs and political associations. Every now and then, you might even get lucky and find that an association has managed to secure enough sponsorship money to cover dinner as well. And if you can\u2019t find exactly what you\u2019re looking for, you can always start your own association. You may even be able to get some financial support from your department for your dream project. Culture is something we create together.<\/p>\n<h3>Don\u2019t Forget the Newspaper<\/h3>\n<p>If you want to keep up with what\u2019s going on in the world and appear just as clever and well-read as your fellow students, most newspapers offer substantial student discounts.
