The idea is to create one of Europe\u2019s biggest and strongest medical science faculties.<\/p>\n

This was the phrase used by Rector Ralf Hemmingsen and Dean Sven Fr\u00f8kj\u00e6r to set the agenda in front of a packed auditorium at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.<\/p>\n

The meeting was the fourth in a long day of meetings at the four University of Copenhagen faculties that are slated to be merged<\/a> from 1 January 2013.<\/p>\n

Why should Pharma be with Health?<\/h2>\n

According to the Rector\u2019s and Dean\u2019s presentation, the merger is an ambitious one. It will give the University of Copenhagen a better opportunity to educate the next generation of pharmaceutical experts, with the added benefit that the merger would establish the University of Copenhagen as a leading university in this area.<\/p>\n

Dean of Pharmaceutical Science Sven Fr\u00f8kj\u00e6r presented the numbers behind the merger. It would result in 6,000 employees and 14,000 students for the new Health-Pharma Faculty, which has not yet been named, but tentatively spoken of as the \u2018Medical Faculty\u2019.<\/p>\n

On the power point presentation the question popped up on the board: \u2018Why is it good for Pharma to become part of the merged Medical Faculty\u2019.<\/p>\n

Lift the task given to us<\/h2>\n

Rector Ralf Hemmingsen and Dean Sven Fr\u00f8kj\u00e6r proffered an answer:<\/p>\n

While ensuring that the basic disciplines are kept under the same organisation, for pharmaceuticals, it would enable their expertise to participate in a bigger market place.<\/p>\n

Dean Sven Frokjaer appealed to the audience: \u00bbI hope, that we can all stand together and lift this task given to us, work together and grow\u00ab.<\/p>\n
