At an orientation for new international students, they responded to our stupid question request with some really, well, stupid questions. Could I go to class naked? Why are there so many cows in Copenhagen? How do I get the phone number of the cute University Post editorial assistant?<\/p>\n<p>We were at another orientation meeting last week. And we asked our new students what they considered strange in Denmark and among Danish natives.<\/p>\n<p>A few of the suggestions are a bit cryptic. So if any of you can come up with explanations or a new interesting discovery, please enlighten the rest of us by giving us a comment in the box below. The strange things that we don&#8217;t understand in the newsroom we have marked with (?).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The weather is really weird and scary!<br \/>\n\u2022 Cheap shots here taste like mouthwash!<br \/>\n\u2022 Babies are left alone in cars and carriages<br \/>\n\u2022 People hang out at the cemetery in their free time, just for the fun of it!<br \/>\n\u2022 All (a lot) of the doors open IN \u2013 opposite to Canada!<br \/>\n\u2022 Absolutely nothing about Copenhagen is strange. That&#8217;s strange<br \/>\n\u2022 Everyone in Copenhagen is so good looking<br \/>\n\u2022 There\u2019s no \u201cbaker &#8211; culture\u201d here (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes drink mouthwash<br \/>\n\u2022 Few people kiss at parties \u2013 few people dance<br \/>\n\u2022 So many bicycles, but so much glass on the streets\u2026<br \/>\n\u2022 Metros without drivers<br \/>\n\u2022 Boxes in the supermarket when you pay your stuff \u2013 where you can throw cans in (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 The Danes only eat bloody hot dogs all the time! (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 Christiania<br \/>\n\u2022 Cyclists bump into you every time you turn a corner!<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes ride their bikes so fast without getting into accidents. How?<br \/>\n\u2022 Too many bicycles around<br \/>\n\u2022 Danish sounds really weird<br \/>\n\u2022 Employees at the Danish Immigration Service actually treat you like a human being! (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 People ride Christiania bikes all over the city. They seem to be quite inconvenient<br \/>\n\u2022 So many Danes ride bicycles, but don&#8217;t wear helmets<br \/>\n\u2022 No one ever crosses the red traffic lights, even when no cars or bicycles are coming!<br \/>\n\u2022 Serious issues with the tap water<br \/>\n\u2022 It&#8217;s illegal to have someone on the back of your bicycle<br \/>\n\u2022 All Danish girls wear black, only black<br \/>\n\u2022 The bike rules are so hard to learn for foreigners!<br \/>\n\u2022 The Danish transport ticket machines<br \/>\n\u2022 People are so quiet in the public transportation systems<br \/>\n\u2022 You have special roads for bicycles!<br \/>\n\u2022 People are not very particular about locking their bikes<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes and their way of driving! How do you not kill each other in the public traffic?<br \/>\n\u2022 Why don\u2019t you have cottage cheese?<br \/>\n\u2022 The strange little green person on the exit signs<br \/>\n\u2022 It&#8217;s so cold and Danes wear so little clothes<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes dislike people from Greenland<br \/>\n\u2022 Getting robbed within one hour of arrival in Denmark<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes have better beer than Germans!<br \/>\n\u2022 Traffic jams with bikes instead of cars!<br \/>\n\u2022 People sing very loudly on their bicycles and ring their bells constantly!<\/p>\n<p>We have recently done the same test on a new batch of exchange students. Funny, honest and some almost obscene, the questions were all about the bizarre customs of the Danish people. Now we\u2019re back. At an orientation for new international students, they responded to our stupid question request with some really, well, stupid questions. Could I go to class naked? Why are there so many cows in Copenhagen? How do I get the phone number of the cute University Post editorial assistant?<\/p>\n<p>We were at another orientation meeting last week. And we asked our new students what they considered strange in Denmark and among Danish natives.<\/p>\n<p>A few of the suggestions are a bit cryptic. So if any of you can come up with explanations or a new interesting discovery, please enlighten the rest of us by giving us a comment in the box below. The strange things that we don&#8217;t understand in the newsroom we have marked with (?).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The weather is really weird and scary!<br \/>\n\u2022 Cheap shots here taste like mouthwash!<br \/>\n\u2022 Babies are left alone in cars and carriages<br \/>\n\u2022 People hang out at the cemetery in their free time, just for the fun of it!<br \/>\n\u2022 All (a lot) of the doors open IN \u2013 opposite to Canada!<br \/>\n\u2022 Absolutely nothing about Copenhagen is strange. That&#8217;s strange<br \/>\n\u2022 Everyone in Copenhagen is so good looking<br \/>\n\u2022 There\u2019s no \u201cbaker &#8211; culture\u201d here (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes drink mouthwash<br \/>\n\u2022 Few people kiss at parties \u2013 few people dance<br \/>\n\u2022 So many bicycles, but so much glass on the streets\u2026<br \/>\n\u2022 Metros without drivers<br \/>\n\u2022 Boxes in the supermarket when you pay your stuff \u2013 where you can throw cans in (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 The Danes only eat bloody hot dogs all the time! (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 Christiania<br \/>\n\u2022 Cyclists bump into you every time you turn a corner!<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes ride their bikes so fast without getting into accidents. How?<br \/>\n\u2022 Too many bicycles around<br \/>\n\u2022 Danish sounds really weird<br \/>\n\u2022 Employees at the Danish Immigration Service actually treat you like a human being! (?)<br \/>\n\u2022 People ride Christiania bikes all over the city. They seem to be quite inconvenient<br \/>\n\u2022 So many Danes ride bicycles, but don&#8217;t wear helmets<br \/>\n\u2022 No one ever crosses the red traffic lights, even when no cars or bicycles are coming!<br \/>\n\u2022 Serious issues with the tap water<br \/>\n\u2022 It&#8217;s illegal to have someone on the back of your bicycle<br \/>\n\u2022 All Danish girls wear black, only black<br \/>\n\u2022 The bike rules are so hard to learn for foreigners!<br \/>\n\u2022 The Danish transport ticket machines<br \/>\n\u2022 People are so quiet in the public transportation systems<br \/>\n\u2022 You have special roads for bicycles!<br \/>\n\u2022 People are not very particular about locking their bikes<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes and their way of driving! How do you not kill each other in the public traffic?<br \/>\n\u2022 Why don\u2019t you have cottage cheese?<br \/>\n\u2022 The strange little green person on the exit signs<br \/>\n\u2022 It&#8217;s so cold and Danes wear so little clothes<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes dislike people from Greenland<br \/>\n\u2022 Getting robbed within one hour of arrival in Denmark<br \/>\n\u2022 Danes have better beer than Germans!<br \/>\n\u2022 Traffic jams with bikes instead of cars!<br \/>\n\u2022 People sing very loudly on their bicycles and ring their bells constantly!<\/p>\n<p>We have recently done the same test on a new batch of exchange students.
