Find out what is going on in the city with our top ten list of public works!<\/p>\n<h2>10. New pavement in front of the University<\/h2>\n<p>Have you ever noticed that statues of nine Nobel Prize winners from the University of Copenhagen decorate the fa\u00e7ade of the main University building at Frue Plads?<\/p>\n<p>Well, they should have given them earplugs. Relief is on the way however. Works to renew the square are soon over!<\/p>\n<p>The main University building was bombarded by the British Navy in 1807. The present one was built in the 1830s.<\/p>\n<h2>9. Freestyle paradise coming soon<\/h2>\n<p>At N\u00f8rre All\u00e9, Europe&#8217;s biggest skate park is under construction right in front of the HC\u00d8 Institute, which is part of the Science Campus. <\/p>\n<p>New cement bumps and ramps will substitute the old school wood and iron facilities. Read more about the park <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grontmij.eu\/MediaCenter\/Pages\/Grontmij-expertise-behind-design-of-largest-skate-park-in-Northern-Europe.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>8. New ghostly metro stop<\/h2>\n<p>At present, the Copenhagen Metro consists of two lines, built between 1996 and 2003. A new circular, scheduled to be finished by 2018, is now under construction. <\/p>\n<p>This new line will circle the city centre, connecting \u00d8sterbro, N\u00f8rrebro and Vesterbro to Frederiksberg. <\/p>\n<p>One of the new stops will be placed at the northern corner of the Assistens Cemetery, where many famous Danes are buried. New House of Industry<\/h2>\n<p>Between the Tivoli fun park and the R\u00e5dhuspladsen square in front of city hall, the Danish Confederation of Industries is constructing a new headquarters. <\/p>\n<p>As it looks now, the building is nothing but a bunch of cement columns, but by the end it, its glossy fa\u00e7ade will mirror the surrounding buildings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cenario.com\/case\/id\/478\/category\/\/alpha\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here<\/a> you can see what the new House of Industry will look like.<\/p>\n<p>Works are expected completed by 31 May, 2013.<\/p>\n<h2>6. N\u00f8rrebrogade, the cycle highway<\/h2>\n<p>If Copenhagen is a city of cyclists, then N\u00f8rrebrogade is its pedalling heart: According to the Danish Cyclists Federation (DCF), it is the busiest bicycle street in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce the number of cars and increase the number of cyclists even more, the City of Copenhagen decided to increase the width of the N\u00f8rrebrogade&#8217;s bike lanes. <\/p>\n<p>After reducing the space for cars on the bridge crossing the lakes, works are now proceeding up the street towards the Assistens Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about N\u00f8rrebrogade&#8217;s development on the blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copenhagenize.com\/2008\/12\/permanent-sustainability-on-nrrebrogade.html\" target=\"_blank\">copenhagenize.com<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>5. New metro stop facing City Hall<\/h2>\n<p>One of the stops of the new Metro line will be &#8216;R\u00e5dhuspladsen&#8217;. Mind the hole on Str\u00f8get<\/h2>\n<p>Now that one constantly has to avoid new holes, walking at Str\u00f8get has been a bit more stressful than usual.<\/p>\n<p>But don&#8217;t worry, your favourite shop is not collapsing &#8211; it is just ordinary pipe substitution.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Shopping under construction<\/h2>\n<p>Holes are dug also at Gammel Strand, a road with a vast range of \u00bbhyggelige\u00ab shops and caf\u00e9s. Again, the construction work is related to the new metro line.<\/p>\n<p>The situation stimulates the creativity of the shopkeepers. The clothing store &#8216;Kitsch Bitch&#8217;, for example, uses the construction site barriers to exhibit clothes from the store (see the photo gallery). <\/p>\n<h2>2. Frederiksborggade is refurbished<\/h2>\n<p>Frederiksborggade is the pedestrian road you take to go from N\u00f8rreport station to Str\u00f8get. Now you can walk only on the left side of the road, while the pavement is renewed on the other half. <\/p>\n<p>To allow access to the shops on the right side, appropriate footbridges have been placed.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Archaeology meets city planning<\/h2>\n<p>And now to our number one:<\/p>\n<p>When excavations for the new circular metro line started, engineers had to take into account not only urbanistic, logistic and design related issues. They also had to take into account historical ones.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, archaeologists from the Museum of Copenhagen work side by side with excavators at Kongens Nytorv. Find out what is going on in the city with our top ten list of public works!<\/p>\n<h2>10. New pavement in front of the University<\/h2>\n<p>Have you ever noticed that statues of nine Nobel Prize winners from the University of Copenhagen decorate the fa\u00e7ade of the main University building at Frue Plads?<\/p>\n<p>Well, they should have given them earplugs. Relief is on the way however. Works to renew the square are soon over!<\/p>\n<p>The main University building was bombarded by the British Navy in 1807. The present one was built in the 1830s.<\/p>\n<h2>9. Freestyle paradise coming soon<\/h2>\n<p>At N\u00f8rre All\u00e9, Europe&#8217;s biggest skate park is under construction right in front of the HC\u00d8 Institute, which is part of the Science Campus. <\/p>\n<p>New cement bumps and ramps will substitute the old school wood and iron facilities. Read more about the park <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grontmij.eu\/MediaCenter\/Pages\/Grontmij-expertise-behind-design-of-largest-skate-park-in-Northern-Europe.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>8. New ghostly metro stop<\/h2>\n<p>At present, the Copenhagen Metro consists of two lines, built between 1996 and 2003. A new circular, scheduled to be finished by 2018, is now under construction. <\/p>\n<p>This new line will circle the city centre, connecting \u00d8sterbro, N\u00f8rrebro and Vesterbro to Frederiksberg. <\/p>\n<p>One of the new stops will be placed at the northern corner of the Assistens Cemetery, where many famous Danes are buried. New House of Industry<\/h2>\n<p>Between the Tivoli fun park and the R\u00e5dhuspladsen square in front of city hall, the Danish Confederation of Industries is constructing a new headquarters. <\/p>\n<p>As it looks now, the building is nothing but a bunch of cement columns, but by the end it, its glossy fa\u00e7ade will mirror the surrounding buildings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cenario.com\/case\/id\/478\/category\/\/alpha\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here<\/a> you can see what the new House of Industry will look like.<\/p>\n<p>Works are expected completed by 31 May, 2013.<\/p>\n<h2>6. N\u00f8rrebrogade, the cycle highway<\/h2>\n<p>If Copenhagen is a city of cyclists, then N\u00f8rrebrogade is its pedalling heart: According to the Danish Cyclists Federation (DCF), it is the busiest bicycle street in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce the number of cars and increase the number of cyclists even more, the City of Copenhagen decided to increase the width of the N\u00f8rrebrogade&#8217;s bike lanes. <\/p>\n<p>After reducing the space for cars on the bridge crossing the lakes, works are now proceeding up the street towards the Assistens Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about N\u00f8rrebrogade&#8217;s development on the blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copenhagenize.com\/2008\/12\/permanent-sustainability-on-nrrebrogade.html\" target=\"_blank\">copenhagenize.com<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>5. New metro stop facing City Hall<\/h2>\n<p>One of the stops of the new Metro line will be &#8216;R\u00e5dhuspladsen&#8217;. Mind the hole on Str\u00f8get<\/h2>\n<p>Now that one constantly has to avoid new holes, walking at Str\u00f8get has been a bit more stressful than usual.<\/p>\n<p>But don&#8217;t worry, your favourite shop is not collapsing &#8211; it is just ordinary pipe substitution.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Shopping under construction<\/h2>\n<p>Holes are dug also at Gammel Strand, a road with a vast range of \u00bbhyggelige\u00ab shops and caf\u00e9s. Again, the construction work is related to the new metro line.<\/p>\n<p>The situation stimulates the creativity of the shopkeepers. The clothing store &#8216;Kitsch Bitch&#8217;, for example, uses the construction site barriers to exhibit clothes from the store (see the photo gallery). <\/p>\n<h2>2. Frederiksborggade is refurbished<\/h2>\n<p>Frederiksborggade is the pedestrian road you take to go from N\u00f8rreport station to Str\u00f8get. Now you can walk only on the left side of the road, while the pavement is renewed on the other half. <\/p>\n<p>To allow access to the shops on the right side, appropriate footbridges have been placed.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Archaeology meets city planning<\/h2>\n<p>And now to our number one:<\/p>\n<p>When excavations for the new circular metro line started, engineers had to take into account not only urbanistic, logistic and design related issues. They also had to take into account historical ones.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, archaeologists from the Museum of Copenhagen work side by side with excavators at Kongens Nytorv.
