","contributor_image":false}]},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>The concepts of faith and belief are overrated, reckons theology professor S\u00f8ren Holst.<\/p>\n<p>For a start, the word \u2018belief\u2019 is ambiguous. It may raise the question of existence of a higher power, or simply whether or not you have <em>trust<\/em> in that higher power.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bbDo you regard the existence of God as a possibility?\u00ab Professor Holst asked the audience, leaving more questions unanswered than before.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"node\/8495\">Click here to see a photo gallery of the event.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Faculty as old as the University <\/h2>\n<p>We are at a Copenhagen Master\u2019s of Excellence COME event, and S\u00f8ren Holst of the Faculty of Theology is looking at the concept of God and raising questions about His existence.<\/p>\n<p>The seven elite courses under the Copenhagen Master of Excellence (COME) take turns in hosting students from the other disciplines. This month, the students from the course \u2018The Religious Roots of Europe\u2019 are playing host.<\/p>\n<p>The Faculty of Theology boasts of originating in 1497 when the University of Copenhagen was founded.<\/p>\n<h2>God over dinner and drinks<\/h2>\n<p>Because of the widespread relevance of the world\u2019s three major religions; Hinduism, Islam and Christianity; it is important to know their impact on Europe, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology stressed at his opening address which welcomed the students that evening.<\/p>\n<p>Theology as a subject is infinite, professor Holst commented in his lecture that followed. Unlike other subjects it cannot be scrutinized by competitors or colleagues because \u2018revelations cannot be shared\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>If students were left confused after Professor Holst\u2019s talk, they were satisfied with the way he opened up new avenues for discussion.<\/p>\n<h2>Most people know something<\/h2>\n<p>\u00bbIt was not something you didn\u2019t know anything about at all,\u00ab quipped a thoughtful Tim van Deurzen, a Dutch student to the University Post. \u00bbUnless you live in a box, you would know about the major religions in the world and what they say\u00ab. <\/p>\n<p>\u00bbIt was interesting.
