
{"id":22458,"date":"2010-07-13T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-07-13T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/?p=22458\/"},"modified":"2017-01-21T04:53:32","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T04:53:32","slug":"oecd-danes-start-studies-late-but-go-the-distance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/oecd-danes-start-studies-late-but-go-the-distance\/","title":{"rendered":"OECD: Danes start studies late but go the distance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Danes are more likely to complete a higher education course, compared to students in other countries in the the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).<\/p>\n<p>They also tend to start their studies later in life, and, not surprisingly, finish later than students in other OECD countries. <\/p>\n<h2>Danes and Japanese most likely to graduate<\/h2>\n<p>But whereas a high proportion (second only to Japan) of Danish students successfully complete their degrees, Danish universities still come in below average when it comes to attracting international students. <\/p>\n<p>The report \u00bbDanish Universities in an International perspective\u00ab was compiled by the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, based on figures from an OECD statistical report \u00bbEducation at a Glance 2009\u00ab.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the main findings in the Danish report: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Compared to other OECD countries, <strong>Denmark has a high proportion of young people who have completed a further education course<\/strong>. In this respect, Denmark is in the top 5 (out of 31 countries).<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>More women than men have a higher education<\/strong> (29 per cent of Danish women, as opposed to 22 per cent of men).<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>\n<strong>Danish university students are on average older than students in other OECD countries<\/strong> when they start studying. Only 64 per cent are under 22 years old (in Holland, for example, this figure is 80 per cent).<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Only a quarter of Danish students complete their bachelor before they reach the age of 25.<\/strong> (In Cyprus, the country with the \u2018youngest\u2019 bachelor graduates, this figure is more that 8 out of ten).<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>8 out of 10 Danish students finish their studies successfully.<\/strong> This is second only to Japan, where over 90 percent of students graduate. <\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Denmark is under the OECD average for the amount of international students it attracts to further education courses<\/strong>. Only 64 per cent are under 22 years old (in Holland, for example, this figure is 80 per cent).<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Only a quarter of Danish students complete their bachelor before they reach the age of 25.<\/strong> (In Cyprus, the country with the \u2018youngest\u2019 bachelor graduates, this figure is more that 8 out of ten).<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>8 out of 10 Danish students finish their studies successfully.<\/strong> This is second only to Japan, where over 90 percent of students graduate. <\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Denmark is under the OECD average for the amount of international students it attracts to further education courses<\/strong>.
