Yes, well, there is actually no reason to stay at home this weekend. We have an updated guide for 2016 with a selection of things to do after nightfall in Copenhagen.

So without further ado, let’s dive into it.

1. Quiz night

Stimulate your trivia brain by getting together a quiz team and hit the bars below. Both places offer quizzes in English.

The Globe, Nørregade. Every other Thursday at 7 p.m., The Globe charges quiz-fans 25 DKK for a fresh round of trivia.

Kennedy’s Irish Bar, Gammel Kongevej. Kennedy’s Irish bar charges the same entrance fee as the Globe, when the quiz doors open at 19.30 the first Monday in each month.

2. Cocktail relaxation

If you are tired of Tuborg in a bottle, why not sample some rainbow-coloured drinks?

Try Mexibar the best and probably cheapest cocktail bar in town, around DKK 40 for a daiquiri. And if that sets you in the mood, the nightclub RUST is literally around the corner.

Mexibar is located at Nørrebro by Elmegade/Sant Hans Torv.

Tip: In the winter time ask for a delicious tea-cocktail!

3. Midnight feasts

Got the late-night munchies? The city offers several restaurants with tasty menus.

Kung Fu Izakaya Ravnsborggade 16B is a cocktail bar with a night menu, situated in the heart of Vesterbro.

Another restaurant serving delicious meals at night is:
The Ricemarket, located at Kultorvet 38, 1128 København K, or
Pasta Basta in Valkendorfsgade 22, 1151 København K.

If you are too late for these, you can always visit the legendary Rio Bravo on Vester Voldgade 86 for a greasy Danish dinner plate. The kitchen closes at 4 in the morning every day.

4. It’s all about beer

Why not spend one of Copenhagen’s breezy nights in a warm bar serving specialised beers? Exotic or local, organic, spicy – the world of beer not as simple as it seems.

<picture></picture>

Nørrebro Bryghus

Ørsted Ølbar, Nørre Farimagsgade 13, København K,
Nørrebro Bryghus, Ryesgade 3, 2200 København N,
Mikkeller Bar, Victoriagade 8B-C, 1665 København V
Brus, Guldbergsgade 29F, 2200 København N

Speaking of decent beer, do not forget the annual J-day 30 October, the date the Danish Christmas Beer is released, and a great excuse to party.

5. Theatre

The Danish Royal Theatre has something for every taste. During the fall semester you can see a number of plays, a classic opera or an elegant ballet. There is a discount if you are under 25 years old.

<picture></picture>

Copenhagen’s Royal Theatre as it looked in 1890-1900
All of the stages are located in the city centre, and the buildings themselves are worth a look in their own right.

6. Tivoli – Friday Rock

On fridays when Tivoli is open you can go to a concert for the price of the entry of Tivoli. So it is a nice opportunity to listen to some music and enjoying Tivoli by night.

7. Movie club

For DKK 125 you can join the Cinemateket movie club for one year. As a member you can see one movie for DKK 40, which is approximately the same price as if renting a movie to see at home. Included in the membership are a news magazine and exclusive movie offers.

8. Students only!

Try visiting The Black Diamond at night; there is no need to bring your reading books.

<picture></picture>

Black Diamond Building, Copenhagen Royal Library

The beautiful building by Slotsholmen hosts meetings, concerts and other events for students. The bookings are impressive – examples are the artist Dario Fo and author Julia Frank.

Visit the Students Only website to become a member. It’s free, just like the admission for the arrangements.

9. Christiania

In Christiania, the night is quite different to the free town’s touristy atmosphere before the sun goes down. But inside the small concert venues and cafés, the relaxed atmosphere makes for a fun and peaceful evening. Unquestionably worth visiting are Operaen and Loppen.

Having a special dry ice-chilled cocktail in your hand while listening to a lecture? Science&Cocktails combines science with music, art and cocktails. The cosy atmosphere provides space for current themes, discussions, and chatting about science. The lectures take place during the spring session (feb-may) and the autumn season (oct-dec). Each season has several episodes (all in English and free) that usually take place every second Tuesday at 8pm.

Don’t forget the annual Christmas market, when the Christmas spirit abounds. Here, you might even find gifts you actually want to give to someone.

<picture></picture>

Better after the sun goes down.

10. Concerts

Big names in small venues. On a student budget, you may feel like concerts are not cooperating that well with you. Try Loppen in Christiania, Drone in Nørrebrogade or Huset in Magstræde – concerts with Copenhagen’s local heroes performing for their enthusiastic local audience. The prices are hardly ever over DKK 100!

Other small and cheap venues are RUST, Stengade and of course Studenterhuset.

But if you want to spend a bit more money on a good concert Vega
and Pumpehuset are also worth it to be visited.

So that was ten. But here is the bonus:

Bonus: Trendy meatpacking district

Kødbyen, the old meat packing district, is University Post’s choice for the top night spot in Copenhagen. Located in Vesterbro, this is the best place if you want fun guaranteed without having to rent a party island.

Apart from the classic Jolene bar, the area offers everything from tranquil restaurants like PatéPaté and Fiskebar, to upbeat nightclubs like KB3.

Do you have any suggestions that you would like to share with our readers?

Nørrebro Bryghus

Ørsted Ølbar, Nørre Farimagsgade 13, København K,
Nørrebro Bryghus, Ryesgade 3, 2200 København N,
Mikkeller Bar, Victoriagade 8B-C, 1665 København V
Brus, Guldbergsgade 29F, 2200 København N

Speaking of decent beer, do not forget the annual J-day 30 October, the date the Danish Christmas Beer is released, and a great excuse to party.

5. Theatre

The Danish Royal Theatre has something for every taste. During the fall semester you can see a number of plays, a classic opera or an elegant ballet. There is a discount if you are under 25 years old.
