The city's finance committee will vote Tuesday, 8 March and politicians are lining up to block the project","use_post_excerpt":false},{"acf_fc_layout":"Byline","is_author":false,"contributors":[{"use_registered_user":false,"user":false,"contributor_name":"University Post Newsroom","contributor_title":" ","contributor_image":false}]},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>Copenhagen City Council politicians have expressed concern about the prospect of a major new mosque in the capital, writes seven59.dk and dr.dk. <\/p>\n<p>City Hall\u2019s Technical & Planning Committee has already granted the Islamic Faith Society dispensation to extend its current mosque on Dortheavej into a bigger, grander design, but councilors are now having second thoughts following the hidden camera revelations of TV 2\u2019s four-part documentary series, \u2018Mosques Behind the Veil\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Finance Committee will vote on the project Tuesday, 8 March but politicians were lining up last night to block the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI intend to vote no and I would urge others to do the same,\u201d said Culture & Leisure Administrator Carl Christian Ebbesen (DPP). \u201cWe\u2019ve been shown what goes on behind closed doors at these mosques so we need to be extremely vigilant.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The group behind the project can\u2019t be trusted<\/h2>\n<p>However, according Lars Aslan, the Social Democrats\u2019 policy spokesman at City Hall, dispensation to build the mosque has already been given and can\u2019t just be rescinded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many organisations that I don\u2019t like but which are legal,\u201d he said last night. \u201cAs politicians we can\u2019t ban things just because we don\u2019t agree with their purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor of Aarhus Jacob Bundsgaard said on Sunday that Aarhus City Council will deny local Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>The right to build a great mosque in Denmark\u2019s \u2018second-city\u2019 because the TV documentary has shown that the group behind the project can\u2019t be trusted.<\/p>\n<p>Read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dr.dk\/nyheder\/politik\/politikere-bekymret-over-udsigt-til-ny-stormoske-i-koebenhavn\">article on the Danish news site dr.dk here<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>universitypost@adm.ku.dk<\/p>\n<p><em>Do you have a good story?
