US news outlets CNN<\/a>, NBC<\/a>, and newspapers the Washington Post<\/a> and New York Times<\/a> reported how Danish lawmakers voted Tuesday in favour of controversial legislation empowering authorities to seize cash and valuables from asylum seekers to help cover their expenses. This is according to Seven59.dk and other media.<\/p>\n

The British Independent tweeted that \u2018Denmark can now legally search refugees and seize their money and jewellery\u2019, while the BBC<\/a> reported how \u2018The Danish parliament has backed a controversial proposal to confiscate asylum seekers\u2019 valuables to pay for their upkeep.\u2019<\/p>\n
