Inger St\u00f8jberg has been challenged by a member of Aalborg City Council and accused of making the story up","use_post_excerpt":false},{"acf_fc_layout":"Byline","is_author":false,"contributors":[{"use_registered_user":false,"user":false,"contributor_name":"University Post Newsroom","contributor_title":" ","contributor_image":false}]},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>Integration Minister Inger St\u00f8jberg has apologised for claiming that a kindergarten in Aalborg, Denmark\u2019s third-biggest city, refuses to allow children to eat pork, writes seven59.dk and b.dk.<\/p>\n<p>During a speech to local Liberal Party members in Frederikshavn, Friday, the Minister told an anecdote about a couple she knew who had relocated from the Copenhagen area to Aalborg and were looking for an \u2018ethnically diverse\u2019 kindergarten for their daughter Sofia \u2013 however, after finding a suitable place they declined after being told that Sofia wouldn\u2019t be allowed to have pork in her lunch box.<\/p>\n<p>The story was repeated on Facebook but challenged by a member of Aalborg City Council, who said there are no food restrictions on child care institutions governed by the local authority and accused the Minister of making the story up.<\/p>\n<h2>Staff: Never banned pork<\/h2>\n<p>Ms St\u00f8jberg declined to respond yesterday but acknowledged in a statement that as she couldn\u2019t fully substantiate the story she shouldn\u2019t have told it. She wrote:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a story I was told at a private party by people who I trust. I can now name the kindergarten as \u2018Pilehaven\u2019 but I have no proof that the staff told them not to put pork in the child\u2019s lunch box. I shouldn\u2019t have repeated the story without double-checking the facts with Aalborg City Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berlingske contacted the Pilehaven kindergarten Monday where staff strongly rejected that they have ever banned pork.<\/p>\n<h2>Anecdotes<\/h2>\n<p>The Liberals have previously been criticised for employing unsubstantiated anecdotes to support party policy.
