Student job:\u00a0<\/strong>I work as a producer at certain shows at Odense Theater. I write descriptions of the shows for the press, make production plans, and I am involved in seeking funding. Also, I am in contact with the cast\u00a0and much more.<\/p>\n

Subject: <\/strong>\u00a0Theatre Research and Performance Analysis, 4th semester.<\/p>\n

How long have you worked there?\u00a0<\/strong>I am still new, I started at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

How did you get the job?<\/strong>\u00a0I got the job because I worked in public relations and marketing for the Theater Folk high School\u00a0Ryslinge, where I was previously a student.
\n
\nThe head of the folk high school contacted me and asked if I wanted to work as a producer on three shows set for 2018.<\/p>\n

How do you combine working in Odense and studying in Copenhagen?<\/strong>
\nI am only taking one course at the moment, so\u00a0I often get my reading done while I am on the train or improvise my way through class. I have always been very good at being active outside the classroom. I do most of my reading when I am preparing for my exams. I believe that creating a\u00a0network and having practical experience are the most important attributes to have.<\/p>\n

A day on the student job<\/h3>\n

The most\u00a0awesome aspect of my work is that I can mostly work from Copenhagen. Sometimes I limit it to weekdays, and at other times it is necessary to be sitting and working on the computer on a Friday night. But I can do it while I am in bed!<\/p>\n

I usually work in the afternoon or a couple of hours on the weekends and usually from home or sitting in a nice cafe. I do not have a typical workday that starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm. In the weeks leading up to the premiere of a show I travel to Funen and assist the theater instructor with some practical stuff, but especially in regards to\u00a0artistic input. I also make sure that everything runs like clockwork.
\n
\nOn weekdays, I can arrange my work schedule around my studies. When workshops or rehearsals are taking place, I go to Funen.<\/p>\n

As a result, sometimes I might miss a lecture or a day at my internship, but I strongly believe that practical hands-on experience is more important than formal education. Up to a point. However, both are important. I think in the long run, it will be pay off. Some weeks I do not work at all – and some weeks I work 12 hours a day.<\/p>\n

I write descriptions of the shows for the press, make production plans, and I am involved in seeking funding. I have always been very good at being active outside the classroom. I do most of my reading when I am preparing for my exams. I believe that creating a\u00a0network and having practical experience are the most important attributes to have.<\/p>\n<h3>A day on the student job<\/h3>\n<p>The most\u00a0awesome aspect of my work is that I can mostly work from Copenhagen. Sometimes I limit it to weekdays, and at other times it is necessary to be sitting and working on the computer on a Friday night. But I can do it while I am in bed!<\/p>\n<p>I usually work in the afternoon or a couple of hours on the weekends and usually from home or sitting in a nice cafe. I do not have a typical workday that starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm. In the weeks leading up to the premiere of a show I travel to Funen and assist the theater instructor with some practical stuff, but especially in regards to\u00a0artistic input. When workshops or rehearsals are taking place, I go to Funen.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, sometimes I might miss a lecture or a day at my internship, but I strongly believe that practical hands-on experience is more important than formal education. Up to a point. However, both are important. I think in the long run, it will be pay off.
