Universities go up and down on rankings, and the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is no exception. Last month UCPH achieved its best ever rank on the Shanghai tables (35th). But now its time to go down on the QS. <\/p>\n

It is now only the 69th best university in the world, down 24 places over last year on the QS, which is one of the four benchmark rankings used by the University of Copenhagen to gauge its performance. It is still number one in Scandinavia.<\/p>\n

Massachusetts Institute of Technology retained its top spot on the QS rankings, followed by Harvard and the University of Cambridge. <\/p>\n

Eighth on the continent of Europe<\/h2>\n

For a number of reasons Anglo-American universities dominate most tables. This year the first non-Anglo-American university is ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) at 9th overall. <\/p>\n

Copenhagen is technically on an island, but among continental European universities, the University of Copenhagen is ninth, just behind Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and Ruprecht-Karls Universit\u00e4t in Heidelberg, Germany.<\/p>\n

Copenhagen\u2019s Danish colleagues in Aarhus University are also down this year slipping 11 places to 107th overall, while the Technical University of Denmark DTU improved its standing and achieved 112th on the QS tables.<\/p>\n
