The official part of the induction event features a welcoming speech by Rector, followed by him and his prorector and dean colleagues shaking the hand of students, who then file through the Ceremonial Hall.<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><picture><img src=\"\/old_files\/3_33.jpg\" class=\"\"  decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p><em>Photo: David V. Schweiger<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Friday, and there was no exception to these formalities.<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><picture><img src=\"\/old_files\/4_33.jpg\" class=\"\"  decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p><em>Photo: David V. Schweiger<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Ralf Hemmingsen summarised the international news events of the last summer: &#8220;The Lion \u201cCecil\u201d is no longer Lion King in the National Park in Zimbabwe. A dentist from Minnesota, USA, travelled 15.000 km. to Zimbabwe and payed 50.000 $ to shoot \u201cCecil\u201d with an arrow. A woman from Eritrea doesn\u2019t have a penny. She has to jump on a moving train in Calais going through the tunnel 50 K to the UK. The king of real estate, Donald Trump \u2013 the guy with the hair of a lion who owns the lion share of the city jungle \u2013 started his race to the top spot in America.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><picture><img src=\"\/old_files\/5.jpg\" class=\"\"  decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p><em>Photo: David V. Schweiger<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He then went on to talk about the refugee crisis. &#8220;People from Denmark escape the cold weather. People from Syria escape the war. They all meet on the same beach. In the crystal clear waters of a Greek island, both tourists and refugees drift on rubber boats but for different reasons.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-external-teaser dme-external-teaser-3\">\n<div class=\"image\">\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/universitetsavisen.dk\/node\/30614\" title=\"\"><picture><img src=\"\/old_files\/ralf_hemmingsen_from_2014_matriculation.jpg\" class=\"\"  decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/picture><\/a><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"title\">\n<div class=\"label\">L\u00e6s mere:<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/universitetsavisen.dk\/node\/30614\">Full text of speech by Rector at 2015 UCPH matriculation<\/a>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"teaser_text\">\n          <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Later in the same speech Rector Ralf Hemmingsen contrasted the adverts of the Danish government and the University of Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Danish Government is also on a mission. It wants to put an ad in the paper informing Syrian refugees and the people who transport them about conditions in Denmark. Well, the University of Copenhagen already has ads in the paper, inviting bright young people from all over the world to join this university. And here you are!&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><picture><img src=\"\/old_files\/7_31.jpg\" class=\"\"  decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/picture><\/div>\n<p><em>Photo: David V. notable for a Rector speech that tied into the major political events of the World, Europe and Denmark. The official part of the induction event features a welcoming speech by Rector, followed by him and his prorector and dean colleagues shaking the hand of students, who then file through the Ceremonial Hall.<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/old_files\/3_33.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/div>\n<p><em>Photo: David V. Schweiger<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Ralf Hemmingsen summarised the international news events of the last summer: &#8220;The Lion \u201cCecil\u201d is no longer Lion King in the National Park in Zimbabwe. A dentist from Minnesota, USA, travelled 15.000 km. to Zimbabwe and payed 50.000 $ to shoot \u201cCecil\u201d with an arrow. A woman from Eritrea doesn\u2019t have a penny. She has to jump on a moving train in Calais going through the tunnel 50 K to the UK. The king of real estate, Donald Trump \u2013 the guy with the hair of a lion who owns the lion share of the city jungle \u2013 started his race to the top spot in America.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/old_files\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"><\/div>\n<p><em>Photo: David V. Schweiger<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He then went on to talk about the refugee crisis. &#8220;People from Denmark escape the cold weather. People from Syria escape the war. They all meet on the same beach. It wants to put an ad in the paper informing Syrian refugees and the people who transport them about conditions in Denmark. Well, the University of Copenhagen already has ads in the paper, inviting bright young people from all over the world to join this university.
