Ever feel like your courses are full of women?<\/p>\n

If you do, your intuition is probably right. Many University of Copenhagen study programmes are dominated by one gender, with female students outnumbering male students across most faculties and departments. This is according to the university\u2019s latest 2015 enrolment statistics as provided to the Danish-language news site Uniavisen.dk. The University Post has received the underlying numbers in the form of a spreadsheet and the numbers for all departments can be found below.<\/p>\n

There will be 7,641 new students at the University of Copenhagen this year, a slight increase over last year. In general, the gender ration is 60:40, or six girls for every four guys. But from a student’s perspective, the most interesting thing is the exact figures for their own study programme.<\/p>\n

Audiologopedics (science of speech and hearing) boasts the widest gender gap between students, with 12 times as many women enrolling as men this year. <\/p>\n

Women dominating courses <\/h2>\n

Most of the courses with high gender gaps tend to be dominated by women. <\/p>\n

These include dentistry, which had 69 women enrolled in comparison to six men, while 167 women enrolled in veterinary medicine in comparison to 18 men. <\/p>\n

However some degrees are still male-dominated. Computer Science had 148 enrollments from men and only 21 from women, while Forest and Landscape engineering saw 8 women enroll in comparison to 55 men. <\/p>\n

Science dominated by women<\/h2>\n

A common stereotype is that the humanities subjects which are most dominated by women. But it is actually the health sciences which boasts the highest gender gap between men and women at the University of Copenhagen. <\/p>\n

This year, 933 female students were accepted to Health Sciences as opposed to 355 male students. <\/p>\n

In contrast, humanities had enrollments from 1,500 women and 809 men. <\/p>\n

No gender policy on enrolment<\/h2>\n

The university does not take gender into account when considering new students. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we choose who should be admitted to the university, we do not take gender into account. It would be illegal\u201d said Pernille Kindtler, the area manager for guidance and university admissions, to the Copenhagen Post. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you look back in time, there used to be a predominance of men at the university, and now there is a predominance of women\u201d she said to the newspaper. <\/p>\n

Many University of Copenhagen study programmes are dominated by one gender, with female students outnumbering male students across most faculties and departments. This is according to the university\u2019s latest 2015 enrolment statistics as provided to the Danish-language news site Uniavisen.dk. The University Post has received the underlying numbers in the form of a spreadsheet and the numbers for all departments can be found below.<\/p>\n<p>There will be 7,641 new students at the University of Copenhagen this year, a slight increase over last year. In general, the gender ration is 60:40, or six girls for every four guys. But from a student’s perspective, the most interesting thing is the exact figures for their own study programme.<\/p>\n<p>Audiologopedics (science of speech and hearing) boasts the widest gender gap between students, with 12 times as many women enrolling as men this year. <\/p>\n<h2>Women dominating courses <\/h2>\n<p>Most of the courses with high gender gaps tend to be dominated by women. <\/p>\n<p>These include dentistry, which had 69 women enrolled in comparison to six men, while 167 women enrolled in veterinary medicine in comparison to 18 men. <\/p>\n<p>However some degrees are still male-dominated. Computer Science had 148 enrollments from men and only 21 from women, while Forest and Landscape engineering saw 8 women enroll in comparison to 55 men. <\/p>\n<h2>Science dominated by women<\/h2>\n<p>A common stereotype is that the humanities subjects which are most dominated by women. But it is actually the health sciences which boasts the highest gender gap between men and women at the University of Copenhagen. <\/p>\n<p>This year, 933 female students were accepted to Health Sciences as opposed to 355 male students. <\/p>\n<p>In contrast, humanities had enrollments from 1,500 women and 809 men. <\/p>\n<h2>No gender policy on enrolment<\/h2>\n<p>The university does not take gender into account when considering new students. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we choose who should be admitted to the university, we do not take gender into account. It would be illegal\u201d said Pernille Kindtler, the area manager for guidance and university admissions, to the Copenhagen Post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look back in time, there used to be a predominance of men at the university, and now there is a predominance of women\u201d she said to the newspaper. <\/p>\n<p>A reader who has the twitter user name @jbluesoe has crunched the list of numbers for us, and has come up with the graphic below.
