Prime Minister elect Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen\u2019s hopes of putting together a majority coalition including all four centre-right parties were dashed over the weekend by Danish People\u2019s Party leader Kristian Thulesen Dahl\u2019s refusal to compromise on his \u2018four ultimate demands\u2019 \u2013 especially the call for permanent border controls. This is according to Seven59.dk and Politikken. <\/p>\n

The DPP\u2019s EU sceptic MEP Morten Messerschmidt advised the Liberals to remember which party on the right won the most seats in Thursday\u2019s election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Liberals need to listen to voters in southern Jutland, close to the border with Germany, who made it very clear when they voted that border control is the biggest issue for them,\u201d he said, urging Mr L\u00f8kke Rasmussen to acknowledge the \u2018new parliamentary situation\u2019 \u2013 the DPP won 741.746 votes and are now parliament\u2019s second-biggest party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe choice comes down to either committing to a policy for the next four years and then being allowed to sit to administer it or a position where a Liberal-led government would have to ask us every time they want to do something,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Liberals support the move for a more effective border control but don\u2019t believe there\u2019s a need for automated barriers, passport checks, or new administrative buildings at checkpoints.<\/p>\n
