We’ll be enjoying our summer till August, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t enjoy it too, therefore we leave you with ten summer tracks that, hopefully, will become the soundtrack of your summer.

10. Natalie Prass – Bird of Prey

Ms. Prass could well be writing songs for Walt Disney movies since her music sounds very romantic and scenic at the same time. A talent like this rarely goes by unnoticed therefore countless music critics all over the world have praised her debut album released earlier this year. Bird of Prey is one of her best-known tunes and it recently got a very colourful video just in time for the summer, and since she missed the flight to Copenhagen to support Ryan Adams this March, you can catch her all by herself on August 18 at the Vega Ideal Bar.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXJJSPUpAQE width:432 height:324 align:center]

9. Jamie xx feat. Romy Madley Croft – Loud Places

Producer Jamie xx has been the musical backbone of the British band The xx for nearly ten years, but 2015 marks the year when he finally released his solo debut album In Colour. Surely, his band members Romy and Oliver have helped him out on the record as well, and the magnificent Loud Places proves that it was a smart choice as it’s a perfect song for falling in love and hot summer parties. If you’re a fan, be sure to attend Jamie’s show in Copenhagen on November 1.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP9luRtEqjc width:432 height:324 align:center]

8. Young Fathers – Shame

This Scottish trio is the most unique sounding band at the moment, which also explains why they received the prestigious Mercury Prize for their debut album last year. The guys were not about to rest on their laurels and have already delivered an equally impressive sophomore album titled Some White Men Are Black Men Too. Their single Shame won’t let you rest either as its energy will make you jump out of your seat and dance away.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PdYvkaYsaU width:432 height:324 align:center]

7. Kendrick Lamar – King Kunta

Kendrick’s new album To Pimp a Butterfly has already become the best (hip-hop) album of the year with scores and reviews so high they’re almost a perfect 10. This rapper from Compton is a lyrical genius, who on this album has beautifully wrapped his words in funk and jazz rhythms, proving that contrary to popular belief hip-hop is not a music genre with no substance. Listen to King Kunta at a barbecue party or just while biking through the streets of Copenhagen on a sunny day.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRK7PVJFbS8 width:432 height:324 align:center]

6. Action Bronson feat. Chance the Rapper – Baby Blue

From a rapper, who takes himself very seriously, to a rapper who totally doesn’t. According to Action Bronson himself, it’s just happy, funny, rugged, rough rap, and his latest single Baby Blue is exactly that. Produced by the famous British producer Mark Ronson it has all of the feel-good elements for a fun and relaxed summer holiday. If it’s something you dig, then don’t miss his concert in Copenhagen on September 30.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVP_w1rQweE width:432 height:324 align:center]

5. Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Multi-Love

What was once Ruban Nielson’s lo-fi project is now an established name in indie rock music. Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s third album was released a month ago and set to become a summer soundtrack right from the start. The juicy, rich, and warm melody makes Multi-Love the ultimate track on the album, which pulls you into a colourful whirlwind of love.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEtDVy55shI width:432 height:324 align:center]

4. Crushed Beaks – Rising Sign

If you want to dance your guts out on a sunny morning, this song should do the trick. London duo Crushed Beaks released their debut album Scatter earlier this year and it’s full of highly energized tracks just like this one. It’s a wild combination of garage rock, post punk, and noise pop to brighten up your day.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzzZl7VR6Jg width:432 height:324 align:center]

3. Best Coast – California Nights

Got tired from all of that dancing? Then Best Coast’s California Nights will be the perfect song to lay back and relax to. It’s a ‘90s alt-rock inspired tune that could be a good soundtrack for staring off into space or just watching the world go by. Enjoy it on a hot summer night.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U5LWokfRHY width:432 height:324 align:center]

2. Sufjan Stevens – Should Have Known Better

Don’t get fooled by all of the cheery melodies found on Sufjan’s latest album Carrie & Lowell as they’re just a disguise for the dark lyrics inspired by his mother’s death a few years ago. Nevertheless, his new indie folk tunes sound beautifully and will complement your summer without bringing you down. No wonder his upcoming show in Copenhagen was sold out in no time.

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJJT00wqlOo width:432 height:324 align:center]

1.José González – Leaf Off / The Cave

To continue in a peaceful and acoustic atmosphere, here’s the Swedish singer-songwriter José González and his life-affirming single Leaf Off / The Cave. It’s taken from his latest album Vestiges and Claws that was released in February this year, and is as melodic as you’d expect any tune from José González to be. Remember to clap and smile while listening to this song!

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHGnWdwi940 width:432 height:324 align:center]

universitypost@adm.ku.dk

Do you have a good story?
