The Faculty of the Humanities is amongst the best in the world, according to the annual Times Higher Education (THE) rankings of the world\u2019s 1,000 best universities.<\/p>\n

As a whole, the University of Copenhagen placed 109th overall, while Humanities ranked 63rd in the \u2018Arts and Humanities\u2019 category, an improvement of seven places from last year. Arts and Humanities includes programmes focusing on art, language, history, philosophy, theology and archaeology.<\/p>\n

In contrast, the Faculty of the Humanities at Aarhus University dropped 10 places to 65th in this year\u2019s ranking.<\/p>\n

Second in the Nordic region<\/h2>\n

Humanities at the University of Copenhagen is the second-highest ranked humanities programme in the Nordic region, surpassed only by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Helsinki.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s even more gratifying to see that the methodology underscores that our high score is due to the strength of our core areas of research and education<\/p>\n

The only other Nordic universities making the top-100 were all Swedish: Stockholm (82), Lund (84) and Uppsala (98).<\/p>\n

\u201cFinishing in the top-400 is a huge accomplishment,\u201d Philip Baty, the editor of the THE World University Rankings, wrote.<\/p>\n

The THE World University Rankings are based on 13 criteria in categories that include: education, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s enlightening to see how the THE evaluates the faculty compared with humanities faculties at other universities. Arts and Humanities includes programmes focusing on art, language, history, philosophy, theology and archaeology.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the Faculty of the Humanities at Aarhus University dropped 10 places to 65th in this year\u2019s ranking.<\/p>\n<h2>Second in the Nordic region<\/h2>\n<p>Humanities at the University of Copenhagen is the second-highest ranked humanities programme in the Nordic region, surpassed only by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Helsinki.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s even more gratifying to see that the methodology underscores that our high score is due to the strength of our core areas of research and education<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Julie Sommerlund, associate dean for external relations for the Faculty of the Humanities<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The only other Nordic universities making the top-100 were all Swedish: Stockholm (82), Lund (84) and Uppsala (98).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinishing in the top-400 is a huge accomplishment,\u201d Philip Baty, the editor of the THE World University Rankings, wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The THE World University Rankings are based on 13 criteria in categories that include: education, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.<\/p>\n<p>Julie Sommerlund, associate dean for external relations for the Faculty of the Humanities, welcomed this year\u2019s ranking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s enlightening to see how the THE evaluates the faculty compared with humanities faculties at other universities.
