Switzerland was followed by Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, and Sweden.<\/p>\n<h2>Variables include life expectancy, social support<\/h2>\n<p>The report is based on Gallup World Poll data collected from people in more than 150 countries between 2012 and 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers then analyse the \u201clife evaluation\u201d data to rank countries, ostensibly providing a comparative overview of people\u2019s subjective well-being in each.<\/p>\n<p>The variables used to formulate final scores include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tHealthy years of life expectancy.<br \/>\n\u2022\tAvailability of social support.<br \/>\n\u2022\tGenerosity (i.e. how many people have donated to charity in the last month).<br \/>\n\u2022\tPerceptions of corruption in government and business.<br \/>\n\u2022\tIndividuals\u2019 perceptions of their personal freedoms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/2062731-whr15-embargoed.html\" target=\"_blank\">See the full report here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>I&#8230;am&#8230; happy<\/h2>\n<p>On indices of self-reported well-being, Denmark &#8211; home of the melancholy Kierkegaard and Lars von Trier &#8211; is also consistently measured as one of &#8216;the happiest countries in the world\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>But according to a previous featured comment on the University Post, <a href=\"http:\/\/universitypost.dk\/article\/comment-taking-closer-look-happiness\" target=\"_blank\">Denmark is neither better nor worse than any other country.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>universitypost@adm.ku.dk<\/p>\n<p><em>Like us on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/UniversityPost\" target=\"_blank\"> Facebook <\/a> for features, guides and tips on upcoming events.
