This year’s UCPH election has been announced! The vote will take place 20th to 24th November and if you want to stand as a candidate, you need to register by 31st October.<\/p>\n

Students are to elect a new representative to the Board of UCPH, and hundreds of emerging student politicians are to be elected to academic councils, department councils and study programme boards.<\/p>\n

PhD students are to vote for the PhD committee, and there will be special elections for VIP (scientific staff), TAP (technical-administrative staff), and PhD students in the brand new NorS.<\/secret><\/p>\n

The list of candidates will be announced on 7th November and the final election results will be revealed on 29th November.<\/p>\n

2nd Oct.: The election is announced<\/p>\n

23rd Oct.: Deadline for appeal against ballots<\/p>\n

24th Oct.: Final ballots are presented on KUnet<\/p>\n

31st Oct.: Deadline for candidate application<\/p>\n

7th Nov.: The names of candidates are published<\/p>\n

14th Nov.: Deadline for objection to candidates<\/p>\n

20th Nov.: Voting starts at 10.00<\/p>\n

24th Nov.: Voting closes at 15.00<\/p>\n

29th Nov.: Election results are announced<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What can you vote for?<\/h2>\n

Board of Directors<\/strong> – The students are to elect one student representative to the highest authority of the university – the Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for the university’s affairs in general, such as the budget and the strategy. It is also the Board that is responsible for appointing the rector.<\/p>\n

Out of the Board’s 11 members there are two student representatives. At the moment, political science student Alexander Thorvaldsen and German studies student Elias Westergaard represents the student population.<\/p>\n

Students on the Board are elected for a two-year period, with one new student representative elected each year.<\/p>\n

This year, Alexander Thorvaldsen’s seat is up for election. Elias Westergaard was elected last year and has therefore one further year.<\/p>\n

Academic Council<\/strong> \u2013 All faculties have their own academic councils. The academic councils work with strategies for research, education and for knowledge exchange. They also award PhD and doctoral degrees. The academic council consists of VIPs and students.<\/p>\n

Department councils<\/strong> \u2013 Each department at the University of Copenhagen has an advisory body, the department council, which works on the department’s vision papers, teaching strategies, study environment and finances.<\/p>\n

The department council aims to ensure participation and involvement by VIPs (including PhD students), TAPs, and the department’s students.<\/p>\n

Study boards<\/strong> \u2013 The study boards are at all the departments of the University of Copenhagen and their work includes the preparation of curricula for study programmes, the development of new teaching methods, and decisions on the types of exam students should have. The study boards consist of an equal number of representatives from scientific staff, or VIPs, and students. VIP representatives are chosen for three years, students for one.<\/p>\n

The PhD committee<\/strong> \u2013 Just as the UCPH faculties have their own academic councils, then they also have local PhD committees which deal with topics related to the faculties’ PhD programmes. The PhD committee approves PhD courses and processes applications for credit and exemptions from PhD students. There are an equal number of VIPs and PhD students on the committee. VIPs are elected for three years, while PhD students are elected for one.<\/p>\n

If you belong to the new NorS department, there are even more elections to vote in. Here academic staff will also elect representatives to the academic council and to the PhD committee.<\/p>\n

In addition, both VIPs, TAPs and PhD students can vote for representatives of the department council for the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics<\/p>\n

How do you vote?<\/h2>\n

Candidates will be announced on 7th November, and then it’s time to put on your thinking cap. You have about two weeks to find out who will have your vote. The vote takes place from 20th November to 10:00 until 24th November at 15:00. You vote via KUnet. Under the “self-service” tab, press “select” and then just tick off the boxes. The electronic poll means that you can vote 24 hours a day, both from the Friday bar, from the reading room, or from back home on the sofa while you are waiting for Netflix to upload.<\/p>\n

If you are overcome with a sudden urge to engage in student policy then register as a candidate. You can set up your candidacy through the election system’s electronic candidate system<\/a>, or by filling out a paper form that is delivered or sent to the election secretariat.<\/a><\/p>\n

Last year, 15.5 percent of students voted for the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

This is somewhat less than the 20.0 percent which voted back in 2015.<\/p>\n

NorS is a merger of the Department for Nordic Studies and linguistics, and the Nordic Research Institute\">NorS.<\/secret><\/p>\n<p>The list of candidates will be announced on 7th November and the final election results will be revealed on 29th November.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">The most important dates in the election<\/p>\n<p>2nd Oct.: The election is announced<\/p>\n<p>23rd Oct.: Deadline for appeal against ballots<\/p>\n<p>24th Oct.: Final ballots are presented on KUnet<\/p>\n<p>31st Oct.: Deadline for candidate application<\/p>\n<p>7th Nov.: The names of candidates are published<\/p>\n<p>14th Nov.: Deadline for objection to candidates<\/p>\n<p>20th Nov.: Voting starts at 10.00<\/p>\n<p>24th Nov.: Voting closes at 15.00<\/p>\n<p>29th Nov.: Election results are announced<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>What can you vote for?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Board of Directors<\/strong> – The students are to elect one student representative to the highest authority of the university – the Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for the university’s affairs in general, such as the budget and the strategy. It is also the Board that is responsible for appointing the rector.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the Board’s 11 members there are two student representatives. At the moment, political science student Alexander Thorvaldsen and German studies student Elias Westergaard represents the student population.<\/p>\n<p>Students on the Board are elected for a two-year period, with one new student representative elected each year.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Alexander Thorvaldsen’s seat is up for election. Elias Westergaard was elected last year and has therefore one further year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic Council<\/strong> \u2013 All faculties have their own academic councils. The academic councils work with strategies for research, education and for knowledge exchange. They also award PhD and doctoral degrees. The academic council consists of VIPs and students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Department councils<\/strong> \u2013 Each department at the University of Copenhagen has an advisory body, the department council, which works on the department’s vision papers, teaching strategies, study environment and finances.<\/p>\n<p>The department council aims to ensure participation and involvement by VIPs (including PhD students), TAPs, and the department’s students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Study boards<\/strong> \u2013 The study boards are at all the departments of the University of Copenhagen and their work includes the preparation of curricula for study programmes, the development of new teaching methods, and decisions on the types of exam students should have. The study boards consist of an equal number of representatives from scientific staff, or VIPs, and students. VIP representatives are chosen for three years, students for one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The PhD committee<\/strong> \u2013 Just as the UCPH faculties have their own academic councils, then they also have local PhD committees which deal with topics related to the faculties’ PhD programmes. The PhD committee approves PhD courses and processes applications for credit and exemptions from PhD students. There are an equal number of VIPs and PhD students on the committee. VIPs are elected for three years, while PhD students are elected for one.<\/p>\n<p>If you belong to the new NorS department, there are even more elections to vote in. You have about two weeks to find out who will have your vote. The vote takes place from 20th November to 10:00 until 24th November at 15:00. You vote via KUnet. Under the “self-service” tab, press “select” and then just tick off the boxes. The electronic poll means that you can vote 24 hours a day, both from the Friday bar, from the reading room, or from back home on the sofa while you are waiting for Netflix to upload.<\/p>\n<p>If you are overcome with a sudden urge to engage in student policy then register as a candidate.
