Sometimes even a slice of cake with a decoration of your home country\u2019s flag can provide a sense of belonging and welcome. <\/p>\n
International students, mentors and mentees of the University of Copenhagen, met up Thursday night to share dinner, dessert and lots of conversation. It was hosted by the Copenhagen University Library Service and the Royal Library, alongside the Studenterhust on Thursday 5 March. 120 guests were at the event and there was no shortage of cake!<\/p>\n
\u201cI joined this event primarily to spend time with my mentees and of course the food was good too,\u201d said Jean Michel Te Brake, one of the mentors. He went on to talk about the struggles of coordinating group activities and how it was nice to get together over a meal. <\/p>\n
The event kicked off with a well-known quote from St. Augustine: “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”<\/p>\n
As the administration thanked guests for joining, they emphasized the importance of building the international community and how studying in a new country is such a valuable and unique the experience. They hoped that this event would welcome new students and celebrate their cultures, while making new friends.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really enjoyed the party. It is a great opportunity for people with different cultures to get to know each other, to find the feeling of belonging, of course to have fun!\u201d said International student and mentee, Yajie Zhang. <\/p>\n
