
{"id":60763,"date":"2017-12-07T10:03:18","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T09:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/tre-kvinder-ku-haedret-naturvidenskabelige-stortalenter\/"},"modified":"2017-12-08T12:35:29","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T11:35:29","slug":"three-ucph-women-honoured-as-science-talents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/three-ucph-women-honoured-as-science-talents\/","title":{"rendered":"Three UCPH women honoured as science talents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three of the most talented female researchers were celebrated at the annual\u00a0<secret text=\"The award was founded by L'Or\u00e9al in co-operation with UNESCO and the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.\">'For Women in Science'- award<\/secret> on 4th December at the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I want to be a role model and tell young women that it is worthwhile considering a future in the world of research<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Assistant professor Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This year&#8217;s award recipients all come from different research areas, but what they all have in common is that they achieved excellent results in their relatively short careers.<\/p>\n<h3>Biology of sugar, nanostructures and seabed<\/h3>\n<p>Kirsten Marie \u00d8rnsbjerg Jensen, Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager and Sofia Ribeiro \u2013 all from the University of Copenhagen \u2013 research in things as different as the biology of sugar, nanostructures and the seabed off the coast of Greenland.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The prize was instituted by L&#8217;Or\u00e9al in cooperation with UNESCO<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Prizes are awarded to female research talents in 115 countries, including Denmark<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Danish prizes were awarded for the first time in 2007 and will be awarded this year for the 10th time<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The award comes with a DKK 110,000 prize.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Marine biologist and climate researcher Sofia Ribeiro from GEUS, University of Copenhagen, makes her findings on the seabed around Greenland, while Assistant Professor Kirsten Marie \u00d8rnsbjerg Jensen from the Department of Chemistry delves deep down into the atomic structure of several advanced materials.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Professor Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine focuses on complex carbohydrates and proteins in human cells. She says:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was surprised and honoured to get the prize. One of the reasons why I initially applied for the &#8216;For Women in Science&#8217; award was that it had the goal of focusing on female role models so more women would choose a career in research. I want to be a role model and tell young women that it is worth considering a future in the research world. And that it can be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Strong role models<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We hope that we with this award can help focus on female researchers in the future. It appears we need to have a greater focus on women if we are to achieve just one kind of gender equality at the top of Danish research. From left: Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager, Kirsten Marie \u00d8rnsbjerg Jensen and Sofia Ribeiro"},{"acf_fc_layout":"Standfirst","subject":"Names","text":"This is a story about what will follow","use_post_excerpt":true},{"acf_fc_layout":"Byline","is_author":true,"contributors":false},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>Three of the most talented female researchers were celebrated at the annual\u00a0<secret text=\"The award was founded by L'Or\u00e9al in co-operation with UNESCO and the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.\">'For Women in Science'- award<\/secret> on 4th December at the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I want to be a role model and tell young women that it is worthwhile considering a future in the world of research<\/p>\n<p class=\"quotee\">Assistant professor Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This year&#8217;s award recipients all come from different research areas, but what they all have in common is that they achieved excellent results in their relatively short careers.<\/p>\n<h3>Biology of sugar, nanostructures and seabed<\/h3>\n<p>Kirsten Marie \u00d8rnsbjerg Jensen, Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager and Sofia Ribeiro \u2013 all from the University of Copenhagen \u2013 research in things as different as the biology of sugar, nanostructures and the seabed off the coast of Greenland.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The prize was instituted by L&#8217;Or\u00e9al in cooperation with UNESCO<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Prizes are awarded to female research talents in 115 countries, including Denmark<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Danish prizes were awarded for the first time in 2007 and will be awarded this year for the 10th time<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The award comes with a DKK 110,000 prize.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Marine biologist and climate researcher Sofia Ribeiro from GEUS, University of Copenhagen, makes her findings on the seabed around Greenland, while Assistant Professor Kirsten Marie \u00d8rnsbjerg Jensen from the Department of Chemistry delves deep down into the atomic structure of several advanced materials.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Professor Katrine Ter-Borch Gram Schjoldager from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine focuses on complex carbohydrates and proteins in human cells. She says:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was surprised and honoured to get the prize. One of the reasons why I initially applied for the &#8216;For Women in Science&#8217; award was that it had the goal of focusing on female role models so more women would choose a career in research. I want to be a role model and tell young women that it is worth considering a future in the research world. And that it can be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Strong role models<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We hope that we with this award can help focus on female researchers in the future. It appears we need to have a greater focus on women if we are to achieve just one kind of gender equality at the top of Danish research.
