The attack is presumably linked to the magazine&#8217;s former publication of the Muhammad cartoons in Denmark in 2006. Here are the most important dates in the Muhammad cartoon crisis as reported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.b.dk\/globalt\/tidslinje-saadan-forloeb-muhammed-krisen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in Danish-language newspaper Berlingske here<\/a> and on Seven59.dk.<\/p>\n<p>30.9.2005:<br \/>\nJyllands Posten publishes 12 caricatures of the prophet Muhammad, including one with a bomb in his turban.<\/p>\n<p>8.10.05:<br \/>\nThe Islamic Faith Society demands that Jyllands-Posten offers all Muslims an official apology and withdraw the offensive images.<\/p>\n<p>12.10.05:<br \/>\n11 ambassadors from Muslim countries request a personal meeting with prime minister at the time, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, which is dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>14.10.05:<br \/>\n3,500 people join demonstration against the caricatures in Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>16.10.05:<br \/>\nA 17-year-old male is charged with issuing death threats against one of the illustrators. Anders Fogh Rasmussen distances himself from the threats.<\/p>\n<p>19.10.05:<br \/>\nMr Fogh Rasmussen and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs receive a protest letter from 11 Muslim countries with embassies in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>21.10.05:<br \/>\nThe Prime Minister sends a written reply to the 11 ambassadors: \u201cFreedom of expression is the cornerstone of Danish democracy and wide-reaching. The Danish government has no possibility of influencing the press.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>24.10.05:<br \/>\nMr Fogh Rasmussen refuses to meet the ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p>29.10.05:<br \/>\nJyllands Posten is reported to the police by 11 Muslim organisations in Denmark claiming blasphemy and racial discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>November 2005:<br \/>\nA delegation of Danish Muslims embarks on an \u2018information trip\u2019 to the Middle East, spreading the word about the caricatures and calling for international condemnation.<\/p>\n<p>1.12.05:<br \/>\nA reward is offered for the murder of the illustrators.<\/p>\n<p>20.12.05:<br \/>\nIn an op-ed piece in Politiken, 22 former Danish ambassadors denounce Mr Fogh Rasmussen for refusing to meet the 11 Muslim ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p>7.1.06:<br \/>\nThe Public Prosecutor in Viborg decides not to prosecute Jyllands-Posten for blasphemy.<\/p>\n<p>8.1.06:<br \/>\nThe Islamic Faith society appeals the Public Prosecutor\u2019s ruling to the Attorney General.<\/p>\n<p>10.1.06:<br \/>\nThe caricatures are re-published by Norwegian newspaper Magazinet, in a show of support for freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>20.1.2006:<br \/>\nCitizens of Saudi Arabia are urged to boycott Danish goods.<\/p>\n<p>21.1.06:<br \/>\nMuslims throughout the world are urged by an international group of Muslim scholars to boycott Danish goods.<\/p>\n<p>29.1.06:<br \/>\nLibya closes down its embassy in Denmark in protest at the caricatures. Angry Muslims set fire to Danish flags in the Middle East. All Danes, Norwegians, and Swedes, are urged to leave Gaza within 72 hours.<\/p>\n<p>30.1.06:<br \/>\nJyllands-Posten offers an apology through a Jordanian new agency for violating Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>1.2.06:<br \/>\nNewspapers throughout Europe publish the Mohammed caricatures, including the French satirical publication, Charlie Hedbo.<\/p>\n<p>2.2.06:<br \/>\nAnders Fogh Rasmussen tells an Arabic TV station that Danes have no wish to insult Muslims, after the caricatures were published in a Jordanian newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>4.2.06:<br \/>\nThe Danish Embassy in Damascus is burnt down by angry demonstrators.<\/p>\n<p>5.2.06:<br \/>\nThe Danish Embassy in Lebanon is burnt down.<\/p>\n<p>6.2.06:<br \/>\nThe Danish embassy in Iran is attacked and torched.<\/p>\n<p>7.2.06:<br \/>\nThe Danish embassy in Iran comes under attack for the second day in a row.<\/p>\n<p>10.2.06:<br \/>\nDuring Friday prayers in Iraq, Anders Fogh Rasmussen is dismissed as \u2018an idiot\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>13.2.06:<br \/>\nMr Fogh Rasmussen holds talks with the Network of Danish Democratic Muslins, led by prominent immigrant MP Naser Khader.<\/p>\n<p>18.2.06:<br \/>\n15 people die in Nigeria during a demonstration against the drawings. A Danish delegation looking for conciliation in Egypt is well-received.<\/p>\n<p>26.2.06:<br \/>\nDenmark\u2019s ambassador to Syria is recalled.<\/p>\n<p>27.2.06:<br \/>\nEU Foreign Ministers issue a joint declaration stressing the importance of freedom of expression, but \u2018regretting\u2019 that the caricatures have violated Muslim sensibilities.<\/p>\n<p>15.3.06:<br \/>\nThe Attorney General declines to prosecute Jyllands-Posten.<\/p>\n<p>16.3.06:<br \/>\nAll foreign ambassadors are invited to a meeting at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an attempt at \u2018damage limitation\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>17.3.06:<br \/>\nThe 27 Muslim organisations that reported Jyllands-Posten for blasphemy and racial discrimination send the case to the UN\u2019s human right commissioner, just as the EU\u2019s Justice Commissioner praises the Attorney General for a ruling that\u2019s a \u2018perfect example of how a democracy works\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>18.3.06:<br \/>\nUnited Nations Special Rapporteurs conclude in a report that the Danish government \u2018failed to meet its international obligations, with regard to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>21.3.06:<br \/>\nThe Liberals and Danish People\u2019s Party criticise Arla Foods for failing to support the fight for freedom of expression, after the dairy giant placed full-page ads in 25 Arabic newspapers expressing its \u2018respect and understanding for Muslim society\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>22.3.06:<br \/>\nA Bahrain conference on how Muslims can spread knowledge of Mohammed in the West calls for supermarkets to maintain the boycott of Danish goods and support local producers instead. In Denmark, Danish imam Ahmed Akkari threatens to \u2018blow Naser Khader to pieces\u2019 if he ever becomes a cabinet minister.<\/p>\n<p>May 2006:<br \/>\nThe boycott of Dansih goods slowly subsides.<\/p>\n<p>28.5.06:<br \/>\nPolitiken publishes the 12 Mohammed caricatures.<\/p>\n<p>23.5.07:<br \/>\nAmnesty International approves how the Danish government handled the Mohammed crisis and defended freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>12.2.08:<br \/>\nThree men are arrested in Aarhus on suspicion of planning to murder Mohammed illustrator Kurt Westergaard. Two of the men are deported from Denmark while the third, a Danish citizen is later released when the Public Prosecutor drops all charges.<\/p>\n<p>13.2.08:<br \/>\n12 Danish newspapers re-print Mr Wesetrgaard\u2019s cartoon of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban.<\/p>\n<p>15.2.08:<br \/>\nProtests flare up again in Gaza and Pakistan, where the Danish flag and Anders Fogg Rasmussen effigies are burnt.<\/p>\n<p>16.2.08:<br \/>\nThe chair of parliament\u2019s Foreign Policy Committee receives a letter from the Iranian ambassador in Denmark stating that Iran needs an official apology for the Mohammed caricatures before the Committee can go ahead with its planned trip to Teheran the following week,.<\/p>\n<p>14.3.08:<br \/>\nAfter the latest re-print of the caricatures, Danish Intelligence (PET) raises the threat level against Denmark and Danish interests abroad.<\/p>\n<p>19.3.08:<br \/>\nOsama bin Laden threatens there\u2019s a \u2018score to settle\u2019 after the Mohammed cartoons.<\/p>\n<p>24.3.2008:<br \/>\n75 per cent of Jordanian shops refuse to sell Danish products.<\/p>\n<p>28.3.2008:<br \/>\nDutch Islam critic illegally uses Kurt Westergaard\u2019s drawing of Muhammad in his controversial anti-Islam film \u2018Fitna\u2019. After Mr Westergaard threatens to sue. Gert Wilders removes the disputed images.<\/p>\n<p>18.5.08:<br \/>\nJyllands Posten donates 11 of the 12 Muhammad caricatures to the Danish Royal Library, but not the most controversial one showing Muhammad with a bomb in his turban.<\/p>\n<p>2.6.08:<br \/>\nA car bomb explodes outside the Danish embassy in Islamabad, killing six people. Al-Qeada claims responsibility, citing the Muhammad cartoons.<\/p>\n<p>31.8.09:<br \/>\nEight Danish newspapers receive a letter from a lawyer in Saudi Arabia demanding an apology and retraction from them for re-printing the now world famous drawing of Muhammad. The lawyer, who claims to represent \u2018thousands of descendants of Muhammad\u2019, calls on the papers to publish a \u2018clear, public unconditional apology and correction\u2019 if they wasn\u2019t to avoid a lawsuit\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>October 2009:<br \/>\nAmerican police detain two men who they believe were planning terrorist attacks in Denmark \u2013 and also against Kurt Westergaard.<\/p>\n<p>1.1.10:<br \/>\nShortly after midnight on New Year\u2019s Eve, a deranged, Somali axeman attempts to murder Kurt Westergaard in his own home. Police shoot the attempted murderer in the leg. The man is found to have close links t the Somali terrorist organisation al-Shabaab, as well as al-Qeada leaders in East Africa.<\/p>\n<p>5.1.10:<br \/>\nKurt Westergaard\u2019s controversial Muhammad caricatures are reprinted in newspapers in Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, and Surinam.<\/p>\n<p>11.01.10:<br \/>\nIn a survey of Danish artists, 12 per cent reveal that they have dropped certain projects that could violate people\u2019s religious, political, sexual, or ethnic feelings.<\/p>\n<p>22.2.10:<br \/>\nIt\u2019s reported that David Headley, a Pakistani\/American man charged with plotting terrorism in Denmark and India, has for years been a secret agent for the USA.<\/p>\n<p>26.2.10:<br \/>\nPolitiken prints a front-page apology for re-printing the Muhammad cartoons as part of an out of court settlement with the Saudi lawyer claiming to represent \u2018thousands of descendants of Muhammad\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>10.09.10:<br \/>\nA planned attack on Jyllands-Posten by the \u2018one \u2013 legged boxer\u2019 Lors Doukaiev, goes wrong when a bomb explodes in his hands in a Copenhagen hotel.<\/p>\n<p>29.12.10:<br \/>\nDanish Intelligence (PET) in collaboration with its Swedish counterpart S\u00e4po, arrests four men believed to have planned a New Year terrorist attack on Jyllland Posten. 21 months late the four men are sentenced to 12 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>15.5.13:<br \/>\nSenior paralegal Jacob Mchangama of the CEPOS think-tank releases the film \u201cCollision! The attack is presumably linked to the magazine&#8217;s former publication of the Muhammad cartoons in Denmark in 2006. Here are the most important dates in the Muhammad cartoon crisis as reported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.b.dk\/globalt\/tidslinje-saadan-forloeb-muhammed-krisen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in Danish-language newspaper Berlingske here<\/a> and on Seven59.dk.<\/p>\n<p>30.9.2005:<br \/>\nJyllands Posten publishes 12 caricatures of the prophet Muhammad, including one with a bomb in his turban.<\/p>\n<p>8.10.05:<br \/>\nThe Islamic Faith Society demands that Jyllands-Posten offers all Muslims an official apology and withdraw the offensive images.<\/p>\n<p>12.10.05:<br \/>\n11 ambassadors from Muslim countries request a personal meeting with prime minister at the time, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, which is dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>14.10.05:<br \/>\n3,500 people join demonstration against the caricatures in Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>16.10.05:<br \/>\nA 17-year-old male is charged with issuing death threats against one of the illustrators. Anders Fogh Rasmussen distances himself from the threats.<\/p>\n<p>19.10.05:<br \/>\nMr Fogh Rasmussen and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs receive a protest letter from 11 Muslim countries with embassies in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>21.10.05:<br \/>\nThe Prime Minister sends a written reply to the 11 ambassadors: \u201cFreedom of expression is the cornerstone of Danish democracy and wide-reaching. Two of the men are deported from Denmark while the third, a Danish citizen is later released when the Public Prosecutor drops all charges.<\/p>\n<p>13.2.08:<br \/>\n12 Danish newspapers re-print Mr Wesetrgaard\u2019s cartoon of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban.<\/p>\n<p>15.2.08:<br \/>\nProtests flare up again in Gaza and Pakistan, where the Danish flag and Anders Fogg Rasmussen effigies are burnt.<\/p>\n<p>16.2.08:<br \/>\nThe chair of parliament\u2019s Foreign Policy Committee receives a letter from the Iranian ambassador in Denmark stating that Iran needs an official apology for the Mohammed caricatures before the Committee can go ahead with its planned trip to Teheran the following week,.<\/p>\n<p>14.3.08:<br \/>\nAfter the latest re-print of the caricatures, Danish Intelligence (PET) raises the threat level against Denmark and Danish interests abroad.<\/p>\n<p>19.3.08:<br \/>\nOsama bin Laden threatens there\u2019s a \u2018score to settle\u2019 after the Mohammed cartoons.<\/p>\n<p>24.3.2008:<br \/>\n75 per cent of Jordanian shops refuse to sell Danish products.<\/p>\n<p>28.3.2008:<br \/>\nDutch Islam critic illegally uses Kurt Westergaard\u2019s drawing of Muhammad in his controversial anti-Islam film \u2018Fitna\u2019. After Mr Westergaard threatens to sue. Gert Wilders removes the disputed images.<\/p>\n<p>18.5.08:<br \/>\nJyllands Posten donates 11 of the 12 Muhammad caricatures to the Danish Royal Library, but not the most controversial one showing Muhammad with a bomb in his turban.<\/p>\n<p>2.6.08:<br \/>\nA car bomb explodes outside the Danish embassy in Islamabad, killing six people. Al-Qeada claims responsibility, citing the Muhammad cartoons.<\/p>\n<p>31.8.09:<br \/>\nEight Danish newspapers receive a letter from a lawyer in Saudi Arabia demanding an apology and retraction from them for re-printing the now world famous drawing of Muhammad. The lawyer, who claims to represent \u2018thousands of descendants of Muhammad\u2019, calls on the papers to publish a \u2018clear, public unconditional apology and correction\u2019 if they wasn\u2019t to avoid a lawsuit\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>October 2009:<br \/>\nAmerican police detain two men who they believe were planning terrorist attacks in Denmark \u2013 and also against Kurt Westergaard.<\/p>\n<p>1.1.10:<br \/>\nShortly after midnight on New Year\u2019s Eve, a deranged, Somali axeman attempts to murder Kurt Westergaard in his own home. Police shoot the attempted murderer in the leg. The man is found to have close links t the Somali terrorist organisation al-Shabaab, as well as al-Qeada leaders in East Africa.<\/p>\n<p>5.1.10:<br \/>\nKurt Westergaard\u2019s controversial Muhammad caricatures are reprinted in newspapers in Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, and Surinam.<\/p>\n<p>11.01.10:<br \/>\nIn a survey of Danish artists, 12 per cent reveal that they have dropped certain projects that could violate people\u2019s religious, political, sexual, or ethnic feelings.<\/p>\n<p>22.2.10:<br \/>\nIt\u2019s reported that David Headley, a Pakistani\/American man charged with plotting terrorism in Denmark and India, has for years been a secret agent for the USA.<\/p>\n<p>26.2.10:<br \/>\nPolitiken prints a front-page apology for re-printing the Muhammad cartoons as part of an out of court settlement with the Saudi lawyer claiming to represent \u2018thousands of descendants of Muhammad\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>10.09.10:<br \/>\nA planned attack on Jyllands-Posten by the \u2018one \u2013 legged boxer\u2019 Lors Doukaiev, goes wrong when a bomb explodes in his hands in a Copenhagen hotel.<\/p>\n<p>29.12.10:<br \/>\nDanish Intelligence (PET) in collaboration with its Swedish counterpart S\u00e4po, arrests four men believed to have planned a New Year terrorist attack on Jyllland Posten. 21 months late the four men are sentenced to 12 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>15.5.13:<br \/>\nSenior paralegal Jacob Mchangama of the CEPOS think-tank releases the film \u201cCollision!
