University of Copenhagen takes government agency to court over Maersk Tower<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/picture>Cost overruns on the Maersk Tower project now have the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) taking the Danish Building and Property Agency to arbitration court, according to building industry media Licitationen<\/a>. UCPH management had no comment for The University Post.<\/p>\n

UCPH will, as a result of the cost overruns, see increased rent on the building, which is part of the Faculty of Health and Medicine. The university believes that responsibility for the budget overrun is with the contractor, the Danish property agency.<\/p>\n

Another new University of Copenhagen building, the Niels Bohr Building is already at the centre of litigation<\/a> after 2 and half year delays and massive cost overruns.<\/p>\n

Researchers looking for the good party<\/h3>\n

Anthropologists are combining big data and field notes<\/a> to find out what constitutes a good party. And they hope to be able to test time-honoured social science theories in the process.<\/p>\n

Almost 1,000 students voluntarily allowed their smartphones to be monitored when they started at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2013. Their anonymized meta-data on calls, text messages and geo-locations were harvested and analysed by researchers from both UCPH and DTU.<\/p>\n

Sound like something out of a George Orwell novel? Maybe. In the innovative \u2018social data science’ experiment, they mapped out what it is that constitutes a \u2018good party\u2019 by comparing the different types of data from mobile phones with in-depth data material from anthropological field studies.<\/p>\n

DKK 180 million to solve global health problems<\/h3>\n

Three researchers from the University of Copenhagen have received DKK 180 million<\/a> in total from medical giant Novo Nordisk to solve some of the world’s major health problems and conduct research into protein chemistry and obesity.<\/p>\n

Each year, the programme switches between research areas. This year’s themes are protein chemistry, the liver disease NASH, and obesity.<\/p>\n

Key protein in the production of insulin discovered<\/h3>\n

A protein that assists in the process of something called insulin folding has just been discovered in a new study conducted by researchers at the Department of Biomedical Sciences,<\/a> University of Copenhagen. They hope the new research results can be used to develop treatments for conditions such as increased level of insulin in the blood known as hyperinsulinemia.<\/p>\n

Early dogs helped humans hunt<\/h3>\n

Dogs began to live with humans as early as 14,000 years ago in the Near East. But whether this was accidental or on purpose has not been clear.<\/p>\n

New research published in the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology\u00a0by a team of archaeologists from The University of Copenhagen and University College London suggests that humans valued the tracking and hunting abilities of early dogs.<\/p>\n

A study of animal bones in an 11,500 year old settlement in Jordan revealed bones with signs of having passed through the digestive tract of another animal. They were so large that they cannot have been swallowed by humans,<\/a> but must have been digested by dogs, indicating that they must have fed on bones discarded by their two-legged friends.<\/p>\n

Netherlands: English-language destroying universities<\/h3>\n

An opinion piece by a Dutch professor on University World News highlights that it is not only in Denmark that the internationalization of universities has become controversial<\/a>. Results from the Dutch Inspectorate of Education show that Dutch universities are breaking Dutch laws in upholding English-language programmes.<\/p>\n

In the academic year 2017-18, 23 percent of all bachelor degree programmes and 74 percent of all masters degree programmes offered by Dutch universities were entirely in English.<\/p>\n

sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>Cost overruns on the Maersk Tower project now have the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) taking the Danish Building and Property Agency to arbitration court, according to building industry media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.licitationen.dk\/article\/view\/643456\/universitet_laegger_sag_an_mod_bygningsstyrelsen\">Licitationen<\/a>. UCPH management had no comment for The University Post.<\/p>\n<p>UCPH will, as a result of the cost overruns, see increased rent on the building, which is part of the Faculty of Health and Medicine. The university believes that responsibility for the budget overrun is with the contractor, the Danish property agency.<\/p>\n<p>Another new University of Copenhagen building, the Niels Bohr Building is already at <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/property-agency-demands-dkk-625-million-from-contractor-for-delayed-niels-bohr-building\/\">the centre of litigation<\/a> after 2 and half year delays and massive cost overruns.<\/p>\n<h3>Researchers looking for the good party<\/h3>\n<p>Anthropologists are<a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/forskere-vil-finde-opskriften-paa-den-gode-fest\/\"> combining big data and field notes<\/a> to find out what constitutes a good party. And they hope to be able to test time-honoured social science theories in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 1,000 students voluntarily allowed their smartphones to be monitored when they started at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2013. Their anonymized meta-data on calls, text messages and geo-locations were harvested and analysed by researchers from both UCPH and DTU.<\/p>\n<p>Sound like something out of a George Orwell novel? Maybe. In the innovative \u2018social data science’ experiment, they mapped out what it is that constitutes a \u2018good party\u2019 by comparing the different types of data from mobile phones with in-depth data material from anthropological field studies.<\/p>\n<h3>DKK 180 million to solve global health problems<\/h3>\n<p>Three researchers from the University of Copenhagen <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/tre-forskere-faar-180-millioner-til-at-loese-verdensomspaendende-sundhedsproblemer\/\">have received DKK 180 million<\/a> in total from medical giant Novo Nordisk to solve some of the world’s major health problems and conduct research into protein chemistry and obesity.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the programme switches between research areas. This year’s themes are protein chemistry, the liver disease NASH, and obesity.<\/p>\n<h3>Key protein in the production of insulin discovered<\/h3>\n<p>A protein that assists in the process of something called insulin folding has just been discovered in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2019\/01\/190125094248.htm\">new study conducted by researchers at the Department of Biomedical Sciences,<\/a> University of Copenhagen. They hope the new research results can be used to develop treatments for conditions such as increased level of insulin in the blood known as hyperinsulinemia.<\/p>\n<h3>Early dogs helped humans hunt<\/h3>\n<p>Dogs began to live with humans as early as 14,000 years ago in the Near East. But whether this was accidental or on purpose has not been clear.<\/p>\n<p>New research published in the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology\u00a0by a team of archaeologists from The University of Copenhagen and University College London suggests that humans valued the tracking and hunting abilities of early dogs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_81079\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81079\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-81079 size-narrow\" src=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/gazellebonesfullsize-700x235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/gazellebonesfullsize-700x235.jpg 700w, https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/gazellebonesfullsize-480x161.jpg 480w, https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/gazellebonesfullsize-768x257.jpg 768w, https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/gazellebonesfullsize-290x97.jpg 290w, https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/gazellebonesfullsize.jpg 791w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-81079\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Selection of gazelle bones from Space 3 at Shubayqa 6 displaying evidence for having been in the digestive tract of a carnivore.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A study of animal bones in an 11,500 year old settlement in Jordan revealed bones with signs of having passed through the digestive tract of another animal. <a href=\"https:\/\/humanities.ku.dk\/news\/2019\/11500-year-old-animal-bones-in-jordan-suggest-early-dogs-helped-humans-hunt\/\">They were so large that they cannot have been swallowed by humans,<\/a> but must have been digested by dogs, indicating that they must have fed on bones discarded by their two-legged friends.<\/p>\n<h3>Netherlands: English-language destroying universities<\/h3>\n<p>An opinion piece by a Dutch professor on University World News highlights that it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityworldnews.com\/post.php?story=20190121062548730\">not only in Denmark that the internationalization of universities has become controversial<\/a>.
