This according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/bestyrelse.ku.dk\/moeder\/moeder-2019\/bestyrelsesmoede-nr.-100\/Pkt.14.00a1_Bilag_1_KU_Psykisk_APV_2019_-_Hovedrapport_DK_PDF.pdf\">new workplace assessment<\/a>, a so-called WPA, conducted by Ramb\u00f8ll on behalf of the university. 78 percent of all <secret text=\"The University of Copenhagen employs approximately 9,400 people, about half of which are researchers.\">employees <\/secret>of the university have participated in the study.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bestyrelse.ku.dk\/moeder\/moeder2013\/66\/pkt.06abilaga2.pdf\">2013 WPA-report<\/a>, 87 employees were subject to what they deemed inappropriate sexual advances in 2012, a number that resonates with previous findings from 2008-2009. In 2016, when <a href=\"https:\/\/bestyrelse.ku.dk\/moeder\/moeder2016\/bestyrelsesmode-nr-85\/pkt_12b.01.pdf\">the most recent WPA<\/a> was completed, the number had gone down to 67, but is now up again. The 86 employees make up one percent of the study\u2019s total number of participants.<\/p>\n<p>The study asks participants to specify the source of the sexually inappropriate behaviour. 70 percent of participants say \u2018colleagues,\u2019 24 percent say \u2018a superior,\u2019 and 17 percent say \u2018student or other.\u2019 Only 3 percent report having been harassed by \u2018a subordinate.\u2019<\/p>\n<h3>295 have experienced workplace bullying over the course of the past year<\/h3>\n<p>In this year\u2019s report, 295 employees state that they have experienced workplace bullying over the course of the last year. 23 three have been threatened with violence, and 3 employees have been victims of violent assaults. All three figures are lower than those reported in 2016, when 318 employees reported having experienced bullying, 33 had been threatened with violence, and had been victims of violent assaults.<\/p>\n<p>Employees who have experienced harassment \u2013 whether it is of a sexual nature, bullying, or threats of violence \u2013 have more sickness absence, according to the WPA.<\/p>\n<p>A quarter of all the study\u2019s participants who report having experienced workplace bullying confirm that they have had work related sickness absence over the course of the last year. In comparison, 6 percent of employees who have not experienced bullying report sickness absence over the course of the year.<br \/>\n<!-- end of module 1 --><br \/>\nBullying at the University of Copenhagen was, however, much more prevalent ten years ago, when <a href=\"https:\/\/universitetsavisen.ku.dk\/dokument9\/nyhedsarkiv\/2009\/dokument79\/\">10 percent of participants reported bullying<\/a>. That figure has been reduced to 4 percent in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to the guidelines, the University of Copenhagen has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to bullying, sexual harassment, and other types of behaviour that are offensive to employees and students.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2018 the <a href=\"https:\/\/personalepolitik.ku.dk\/english\/personnel_policies\/Guideline-for-handling-of-offensive-behaviour-such-as-bullying-and-sexual-harassment.pdf\">guidelines<\/a> have stated that \u00bbThe employee&#8217;s\/student\u2019s experience of having been subjected to offensive behaviour is the starting point,\u00ab but after much debate on the issue, this statement has been removed from a new version of the guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/udkasttilnyeretningslinjer.pdf\">draft of the revised guidelines<\/a>, it is stated that \u00bbThe University of Copenhagen takes as its starting point offensive behaviour as defined by the Danish Working Environment Authority (DWEA).\u00ab According to the DWEA, \u00bbit is irrelevant whether an offensive action is a result of inconsiderate behaviour or an outright intention to harass. It is the individual\u2019s experience of having been subjected to offensive behaviour that is central to the issue.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>The workplace assessment is based on the experiences of the employees.<\/p>\n<h3>University employees are proud of their workplace but want change<\/h3>\n<p>Generally speaking employees of the university are happy and proud of their work, according to the workplace assessment.<\/p>\n<p>They are, however, very busy, and the university scores low on statements such as \u2018I feel I have adequate time to complete my research tasks\/teaching obligations\u2019; \u2018I rarely experience that my work takes up so much of my energy that it affects my personal life\u2019; and \u2018I rarely experience feeling stressed to the point of it affecting my physical wellbeing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The university also has a low score on statements such as: \u2018The annual performance review has contributed to my further development in my job\u2019; and \u2018New ideas are encouraged and supported in my department.\u2019<br \/>\n<!-- end of module 2 --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Copenhagen\u2019s guidelines for handling offensive behaviour have been the subject of great debate recently. This according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/bestyrelse.ku.dk\/moeder\/moeder-2019\/bestyrelsesmoede-nr.-100\/Pkt.14.00a1_Bilag_1_KU_Psykisk_APV_2019_-_Hovedrapport_DK_PDF.pdf\">new workplace assessment<\/a>, a so-called WPA, conducted by Ramb\u00f8ll on behalf of the university. 78 percent of all <secret text=\"The University of Copenhagen employs approximately 9,400 people, about half of which are researchers.\">employees <\/secret>of the university have participated in the study.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bestyrelse.ku.dk\/moeder\/moeder2013\/66\/pkt.06abilaga2.pdf\">2013 WPA-report<\/a>, 87 employees were subject to what they deemed inappropriate sexual advances in 2012, a number that resonates with previous findings from 2008-2009. In 2016, when <a href=\"https:\/\/bestyrelse.ku.dk\/moeder\/moeder2016\/bestyrelsesmode-nr-85\/pkt_12b.01.pdf\">the most recent WPA<\/a> was completed, the number had gone down to 67, but is now up again. The 86 employees make up one percent of the study\u2019s total number of participants.<\/p>\n<p>The study asks participants to specify the source of the sexually inappropriate behaviour. 70 percent of participants say \u2018colleagues,\u2019 24 percent say \u2018a superior,\u2019 and 17 percent say \u2018student or other.\u2019 Only 3 percent report having been harassed by \u2018a subordinate.\u2019<\/p>\n<h3>295 have experienced workplace bullying over the course of the past year<\/h3>\n<p>In this year\u2019s report, 295 employees state that they have experienced workplace bullying over the course of the last year. 23 three have been threatened with violence, and 3 employees have been victims of violent assaults. All three figures are lower than those reported in 2016, when 318 employees reported having experienced bullying, 33 had been threatened with violence, and had been victims of violent assaults.<\/p>\n<p>Employees who have experienced harassment \u2013 whether it is of a sexual nature, bullying, or threats of violence \u2013 have more sickness absence, according to the WPA.<\/p>\n<p>A quarter of all the study\u2019s participants who report having experienced workplace bullying confirm that they have had work related sickness absence over the course of the last year. That figure has been reduced to 4 percent in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to the guidelines, the University of Copenhagen has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to bullying, sexual harassment, and other types of behaviour that are offensive to employees and students.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2018 the <a href=\"https:\/\/personalepolitik.ku.dk\/english\/personnel_policies\/Guideline-for-handling-of-offensive-behaviour-such-as-bullying-and-sexual-harassment.pdf\">guidelines<\/a> have stated that \u00bbThe employee&#8217;s\/student\u2019s experience of having been subjected to offensive behaviour is the starting point,\u00ab but after much debate on the issue, this statement has been removed from a new version of the guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/udkasttilnyeretningslinjer.pdf\">draft of the revised guidelines<\/a>, it is stated that \u00bbThe University of Copenhagen takes as its starting point offensive behaviour as defined by the Danish Working Environment Authority (DWEA).\u00ab According to the DWEA, \u00bbit is irrelevant whether an offensive action is a result of inconsiderate behaviour or an outright intention to harass. It is the individual\u2019s experience of having been subjected to offensive behaviour that is central to the issue.\u00ab<\/p>\n<p>The workplace assessment is based on the experiences of the employees.<\/p>\n<h3>University employees are proud of their workplace but want change<\/h3>\n<p>Generally speaking employees of the university are happy and proud of their work, according to the workplace assessment.<\/p>\n<p>They are, however, very busy, and the university scores low on statements such as \u2018I feel I have adequate time to complete my research tasks\/teaching obligations\u2019; \u2018I rarely experience that my work takes up so much of my energy that it affects my personal life\u2019; and \u2018I rarely experience feeling stressed to the point of it affecting my physical wellbeing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The university also has a low score on statements such as: \u2018The annual performance review has contributed to my further development in my job\u2019;
