Nationalist, anti-EU party got the most votes","use_post_excerpt":false},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>The anti-EU Danish People\u2019s Party (DF) has emerged triumphant from the European parliamentary elections, according to Seven59.dk and other Danish media.<\/p>\n<p>Led by popular vote grabber Morten Messerschmidt, the Danish People\u00b4s Party won an historic victory with 26.6 per cent. With four seats they are now Denmark\u2019s biggest EU party. <\/p>\n<p>Venstre, the Liberal Party got just 16.7 per cent of the vote, the party\u2019s worst result for 25 years, the Liberals will now have just two seats in the new EU Parliament, half of DF\u2019s four.<\/p>\n<h2>Small parties kept seats<\/h2>\n<p>The Social Democrats slipped back to 19.1 per cent and three seats, but a sign, according to Prime Minister Helle Thornig-Schmidt, that \u2018the party\u2019s imminent extinction has been severely exaggerated\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The smaller parties all maintained their support \u2013 the Conservatives claimed success, with 9.2 per cent and one seat, while the Socialist People\u2019s Party, Social Liberals, and People\u2019s Movement Against the EU all retained their single seats.<\/p>\n<p>Read b.dk article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.b.dk\/politiko\/markant-valgnederlag-til-venstre\" target=\"_blank\"> (in Danish) here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>universitypost@adm.ku.dk<\/p>\n<p><em>Like us on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/UniversityPost\" target=\"_blank\"> Facebook <\/a> for features, guides and tips on upcoming events.
