The building is tall, dull and without any charm. But in spite of its unwelcoming outside, once you meet all the friendly people living there it sure makes you want to stay.<\/p>\n<p>Socialt Kollegium is located at Amager in the area called Sundbyvester and houses 112 residents. It is a traditional Danish student housing with seven floors, which all have a shared kitchen and a common TV-room. Each floor has 16 rooms, all in the same size of 14 m2.<\/p>\n<p>The rooms are light and each one has its own bathroom and a double wardrobe, which saves a lot of space from the rest of the room. Using the kitchen and the TV-room makes it easy to socialize with your 15 floormates, and it is a great way to meet new people and to expand your network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE THE FULL &#8216;DORMS DISCLOSED&#8217; UNIVERSITY POST SERIES: <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/student-housing-reviews-dorms-and-residences-in-copenhagen\/\">Reviews by student residents of dorms and residence halls in Copenhagen<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Facilities<\/h2>\n<p>The different floors all have their own atmosphere, and their own traditions, for instance one of the floors has tequila month in March every year. That makes it a different experience to visit the various floors and makes the dorm more dynamic as a whole. Also the great mix of Danish and international students studying everything from medicine to economics make the dorm a good way to expand your knowledge of different people and different cultures.<\/p>\n<p>The facilities at the dorm are great. There is a fitness room and a music room that can be used for training your biceps and for writing your next big hit. There is also a sauna, which mainly is used during the winter after rolling through the snow outside. Of more practical facilities can be mentioned the laundry room, which has brand new washing machines and best of all it is free to use.<\/p>\n<p>Also to be mentioned is the different options for bike parking (either in the basement or behind locked gates), and the fast Internet, which is already included in the rent, so you do not have to pay extra for it.<\/p>\n<h2>Be social!<\/h2>\n<p>In Socialt Kollegium there are a lot of possibilities to socialize. As mentioned using the kitchen and TV-room on your floor is a good way to meet people, but there is also a big common room that can be used for various activities, for instance meetings, studying, hanging out or parties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">Dorms disclosed<\/p>\n<p>There are loads of dormitories, kollegiums, and student residences in Copenhagen, yet most of the information available is in Danish.<\/p>\n<p>Some are small, old houses with pretty gardens, others are giant concrete buildings with tiny windows.<\/p>\n<p>In the Dorms Disclosed series, it is the residents themselves that review the dorms that they live in.<\/p>\n<p>Here is <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/student-housing-reviews-dorms-and-residences-in-copenhagen\/\">an overview with links to all of the dormitory and student accommodation reviews<\/a> we have published so far, written by the people who know them the best.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to write an English-language review of your dorm write to uni-avis@adm.ku.dk with &#8216;Dorms Disclosed&#8217; in the subject header.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There are a lot of different activities to do, for instance table tennis, fussball and different board games. Besides the common room there are also a pool room and a nice and cozy cinema, where you are able to go and watch a movie with your fellow residents.<\/p>\n<p>Finally there is the yard. There is both a front and a backyard and during the summer the garden is the best place to be. There is lot of space, nice old trees, plenty of grass and best of; all lot of sun. There is a nice terrace and a nice barbecuing and fireplace, where the residents will spend many long summer nights hanging out, drinking beer and singing songs like old hippies.<\/p>\n<h2>Dorm of party people<\/h2>\n<p>Besides the physical settings being great for socializing, there is also an event-committee planning all sorts of events, like potlucks, movie nights, game nights and garden days.<\/p>\n<p>These events make a great opportunity to meet people from all floors and to make new friends. In addition, there is also a Thursday bar hosted by a new floor every month, and every second month there is a big party, such as the annual Summer Party, an American themed party, Oktoberfest, the dorms birthday celebration and of course Tour de Cuisine, which is one of the biggest parties of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The parties are normally quite wild, since the dorm is full of party people, and it is not unlikely to wake up wondering who you are, where you are and what happened last night. Beside the events for the whole dorm each floor will have their own parties, such as party after the main cleaning, Christmas parties, and Tour de Chambre.<\/p>\n<h2>Location<\/h2>\n<p>The area around the dorm is nice and quiet, and there are a lot of different possibilities in the neighborhood, whether you like to go for a swim, go shopping in a mall or simply just want to go for a nice walk.<\/p>\n<p>The dorm is located roughly about 4.5 km from city square hall, which means it takes about 20 minutes to get there by bike, but you can also use bus 33 that runs just outside the door at 4-6 times per hour.<\/p>\n<p>The dorm is only a ten-minute walk from Sundby metro station and from Amagerbrogade (with lot of shopping options), which makes it easy to get home during the late hours. Also it\u2019s located only a 15-minute walk from Fields, in case Amagerbrogade does not fulfill your shopping needs.<\/p>\n<h2>Leisure and sports<\/h2>\n<p>Some of the other things located close to the dorm are Amager Strandpark and Amagerf\u00e6lled, which both are lovely nature reserves, especially during spring, summer and autumn.<\/p>\n<p>It is also close to Islands Brygge, the Faculty of Arts (KUA) and the IT University of Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least it is also located only two minutes away from a swimming bath and to different football clubs, and only a ten-minute bike ride from a sports centre, which gives you a great opportunity to do a lot of exercise.<\/p>\n<h2>Party like there is no tomorrow<\/h2>\n<p>Living at Socialt Kollegium is a great life experience. You learn how to handle conflicts, how to tolerate different cultures, how to get on with people.<\/p>\n<p>Besides getting these competences you also improve your socializing skills and learn how to Henriksen","contributor_title":"\u00a0","contributor_image":false}]},{"acf_fc_layout":"Content","content":"<p>The story about Socialt Kollegium begins in 1968, and looking from the outside it is very characteristic of its time. The building is tall, dull and without any charm. But in spite of its unwelcoming outside, once you meet all the friendly people living there it sure makes you want to stay.<\/p>\n<p>Socialt Kollegium is located at Amager in the area called Sundbyvester and houses 112 residents. It is a traditional Danish student housing with seven floors, which all have a shared kitchen and a common TV-room. Each floor has 16 rooms, all in the same size of 14 m2.<\/p>\n<p>The rooms are light and each one has its own bathroom and a double wardrobe, which saves a lot of space from the rest of the room. Using the kitchen and the TV-room makes it easy to socialize with your 15 floormates, and it is a great way to meet new people and to expand your network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE THE FULL &#8216;DORMS DISCLOSED&#8217; UNIVERSITY POST SERIES: <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/student-housing-reviews-dorms-and-residences-in-copenhagen\/\">Reviews by student residents of dorms and residence halls in Copenhagen<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Facilities<\/h2>\n<p>The different floors all have their own atmosphere, and their own traditions, for instance one of the floors has tequila month in March every year. That makes it a different experience to visit the various floors and makes the dorm more dynamic as a whole. Also the great mix of Danish and international students studying everything from medicine to economics make the dorm a good way to expand your knowledge of different people and different cultures.<\/p>\n<p>The facilities at the dorm are great. There is a fitness room and a music room that can be used for training your biceps and for writing your next big hit. There is also a sauna, which mainly is used during the winter after rolling through the snow outside. Of more practical facilities can be mentioned the laundry room, which has brand new washing machines and best of all it is free to use.<\/p>\n<p>Also to be mentioned is the different options for bike parking (either in the basement or behind locked gates), and the fast Internet, which is already included in the rent, so you do not have to pay extra for it.<\/p>\n<h2>Be social!<\/h2>\n<p>In Socialt Kollegium there are a lot of possibilities to socialize. As mentioned using the kitchen and TV-room on your floor is a good way to meet people, but there is also a big common room that can be used for various activities, for instance meetings, studying, hanging out or parties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\">\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">Dorms disclosed<\/p>\n<p>There are loads of dormitories, kollegiums, and student residences in Copenhagen, yet most of the information available is in Danish.<\/p>\n<p>Some are small, old houses with pretty gardens, others are giant concrete buildings with tiny windows.<\/p>\n<p>In the Dorms Disclosed series, it is the residents themselves that review the dorms that they live in.<\/p>\n<p>Here is <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/student-housing-reviews-dorms-and-residences-in-copenhagen\/\">an overview with links to all of the dormitory and student accommodation reviews<\/a> we have published so far, written by the people who know them the best.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to write an English-language review of your dorm write to uni-avis@adm.ku.dk with &#8216;Dorms Disclosed&#8217; in the subject header.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There are a lot of different activities to do, for instance table tennis, fussball and different board games. Besides the common room there are also a pool room and a nice and cozy cinema, where you are able to go and watch a movie with your fellow residents.<\/p>\n<p>Finally there is the yard. There is both a front and a backyard and during the summer the garden is the best place to be. There is lot of space, nice old trees, plenty of grass and best of; all lot of sun. There is a nice terrace and a nice barbecuing and fireplace, where the residents will spend many long summer nights hanging out, drinking beer and singing songs like old hippies.<\/p>\n<h2>Dorm of party people<\/h2>\n<p>Besides the physical settings being great for socializing, there is also an event-committee planning all sorts of events, like potlucks, movie nights, game nights and garden days.<\/p>\n<p>These events make a great opportunity to meet people from all floors and to make new friends. In addition, there is also a Thursday bar hosted by a new floor every month, and every second month there is a big party, such as the annual Summer Party, an American themed party, Oktoberfest, the dorms birthday celebration and of course Tour de Cuisine, which is one of the biggest parties of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The parties are normally quite wild, since the dorm is full of party people, and it is not unlikely to wake up wondering who you are, where you are and what happened last night. Beside the events for the whole dorm each floor will have their own parties, such as party after the main cleaning, Christmas parties, and Tour de Chambre.<\/p>\n<h2>Location<\/h2>\n<p>The area around the dorm is nice and quiet, and there are a lot of different possibilities in the neighborhood, whether you like to go for a swim, go shopping in a mall or simply just want to go for a nice walk.<\/p>\n<p>The dorm is located roughly about 4.5 km from city square hall, which means it takes about 20 minutes to get there by bike, but you can also use bus 33 that runs just outside the door at 4-6 times per hour.<\/p>\n<p>The dorm is only a ten-minute walk from Sundby metro station and from Amagerbrogade (with lot of shopping options), which makes it easy to get home during the late hours. Also it\u2019s located only a 15-minute walk from Fields, in case Amagerbrogade does not fulfill your shopping needs.<\/p>\n<h2>Leisure and sports<\/h2>\n<p>Some of the other things located close to the dorm are Amager Strandpark and Amagerf\u00e6lled, which both are lovely nature reserves, especially during spring, summer and autumn.<\/p>\n<p>It is also close to Islands Brygge, the Faculty of Arts (KUA) and the IT University of Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least it is also located only two minutes away from a swimming bath and to different football clubs, and only a ten-minute bike ride from a sports centre, which gives you a great opportunity to do a lot of exercise.<\/p>\n<h2>Party like there is no tomorrow<\/h2>\n<p>Living at Socialt Kollegium is a great life experience. The rooms are between 14.6-56 m2 and have private bathrooms. The kitchen is shared. The dorm has a very modern interior and has purposely kept an antique exterior, which creates a fascinating contrast. The vibe is very international as 40 % of the students are from abroad. It is also a very social environment and is known for its common Sunday dinners and themed Friday bar nights. They have built their own chicken coop, which also functions as a bar! According to one of our reviewers it is something for both geeks and partygoers.\r\n\r\nThe rent may be high but it includes all your meals. In this dormitory you can get a 15-20 m2 room in a large mansion in \u00d8sterbro that you will share with 60 other residents. Common facilities are many: a large dining hall, TV-room and a study hall overlooking \u00d8resund. The rooms vary from 14-18 m2 and each comes with a private bathroom. This gives the dorm a distinctly international flavor. Rooms are between 17-26 m2 with big windows. The rooms are private and include a bathroom and a kitchenette. Each floor has a common kitchen and much of the social life centers around them as well as the roof terrace. Although they are not free, the dorm also has laundry facilities. Maj Kollegiet and Hassagers Kollegium<\/h3>\r\nThe \u20184th May dorm\u2019 was founded almost 70 years ago to house the descendants of Danish World War Two resistance members. History is tangible here, although the requirement of being related to the Danish resistance has been relaxed of late.\r\n\r\nLike a set of nesting dolls, the 4. Maj Kollegiet (see above) has another dormitory within it, namely the tiny Hassagers Kollegium, which is home to only 10 students.\r\n\r\nRead the review of\u00a0 the twin residence halls 4. Maj Kollegiet and Hassagers Kollegium \u2014 dorms within a dorm<\/a><\/strong>\r\n<h2>Inner city<\/h2>\r\n<h3><strong>Regensen<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nRegensen dates back to 1623, and about 100 students share a large, old and very beautiful building just next to Rundet\u00e5rn. Rooms vary greatly in size, from 11-25 m2, but the price remains a staggeringly low. Other than a room, you gain access to a great number of common spaces and activities: from a large ballroom to a library and study hall. The dorm has garden days, mushroom-picking trips, and a strong sense of community spirit. But the price does not reflect quality, and this dormitory is actually an old house with a beautiful garden in the heart of city center. It is all very orderly. As one resident put it: \u00bb... everyone comes from a wealthy background ... CPH Village has moved on from the concept of recycling ships\u2019 containers and now builds the homes in wood, but the rooms\u2019 dimensions remain the same: 11 square metres, including one small kitchen, per room. The dorm houses about 300 residents. The building itself has been under contraction and this brings its own set of challenges, including noise, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/students-forced-to-live-on-building-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">critical media attention from us at the University Post<\/a><\/strong> and other media. This is one of the most unique dormitories in Denmark, in the middle of a forest and close to a lake. The houses are built of logs and the residents each have 10m2 with shared kitchens and bathrooms. Each hallway has a common kitchen which is also used as a place to hang out and watch TV. I might also have used the word \u2018ugly\u2019 as a descriptive \u2013 and there is no doubt that the exterior of Bikuben Kollegiet (the 'Beehive') is unusual. Sitting between the old 19th century blocks of Amagerbro and the sandy-coloured university complex, Bikuben Kollegiet definitely stands out.\r\n\r\nThe University Post has reviewed the Bikuben dorm a second time. Read <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/dorms-disclosed-bikuben-the-quirky-beehive\/\">the later review here.<\/a>\r\n\r\n<h2>Brown, orange and concrete<\/h2>\r\nThe building was completed in 2006 which means that the dorm offers all the amenities a student can hope for. There is a fitness room, party hall, lounge, study room and several outdoor terraces. The topmost terrace is on the sixth floor and offers a great view over Copenhagen and Amager \u2013 perfect for New Year\u2019s Eve parties and summer night barbeques.\r\n\r\n<strong>SEE THE FULL 'DORMS DISCLOSED' UNIVERSITY POST SERIES: <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/student-housing-reviews-dorms-and-residences-in-copenhagen\/\">Reviews by student residents of dorms and residence halls in Copenhagen<\/a><\/strong>\r\n\r\nThere are six floors, and each is a little different. However the student rooms are much the same. Each person gets a bathroom and a kitchenette, and the room itself is spacious and white. Concrete is an integral part of the building\u2019s design which means that the ceilings in the rooms are made of this material, and that most rooms have a wall which is partly made of concrete.\r\n\r\nThe design of the common areas is dominated by browns and oranges. This design decision is often frowned upon by the inhabitants who find it a bit odd that anybody would choose these 1970's colors to match the dorm's expensive and modern furniture. Thankfully, the common kitchens are a neutral white, and \u2013 as anybody who has ever lived in an old Copenhagen apartment will be able to appreciate \u2013 there are dishwashers!\r\n<h2>Halloween, Christmas and social life<\/h2>\r\nLike the architecture, the social life on each floor is different. The most accurate description would be that it is what you make of it. Bikuben Kollegiet has its private Facebook group where people often post if they are having a kitchen party or if they are showing a movie in the lounge. Usually everybody is invited, and it is always a pleasure when a new face shows up.\r\n\r\nIf you want a social dorm life it is a great idea to join one of Bikuben\u2019s many committees. Both were preceded by pre-parties: The Pumpkin Party where we carved pumpkins for Halloween decorations, and the Christmas Decoration party where the Baking Committee served cakes and everybody folded Christmas hearts and Christmas stars.\r\n<h2>Life on the 4th floor<\/h2>\r\nMy floor is one of the most social in the dorm. Most of the time you\u2019ll find people hanging out in the kitchens and the common rooms, and we regularly organize events as well as consume a lot of boxed wine. This means that we have what we call \"Red Wine Friday\", which does not necessarily have to be on a Friday.\r\n\r\nSometimes we celebrate Red Wine Friday three times a week. On our floor, most days of the week are connected with a particular kind of alcohol: Cocktail Monday, Tequila Tuesday, Vodka Saturday and so on. We did however deem it necessary to develop Abstinence Wednesday too.\r\n\r\nEach Monday we have the official dinner club where the residents of the fourth floor cook for each other. Often many impromptu dinners happen too as a lot of the residents like to cook and make use of the opportunity to get many people together in order to be able to afford an excellent dinner on a student budget.\r\n<h2>A modern home<\/h2>\r\nWhile the beauty of Bikuben Kollegiet can be discussed, there is no doubt that it is a great luxury to live in a modern building. CPH Studio Hotel boasted ''modern, functionalist-inspired architecture''. It promised ''several excellent facilities'', such as a gym, a lounge-area, a ''well-equipped'' laundry room, a common caf\u00e9\/kitchen area for breakfast, and later, a restaurant. It told tales of rooms of ''the highest quality''.\r\n<h2>The building<\/h2>\r\nWhat students arrived to on September 2, 2015, was quite different. From 16:00 to 03:00, there were hordes of people outside the building, soaking up free beer and pizza provided as compensation by the staff. There was machinery. There were exposed rooms, possessing neither windows nor walls. There was those steel things that hold up buildings. It was a real mess.\r\n\r\nSlowly, but surely, the workmen managed to straighten out the building. It is now less like the abandoned prison of before. At one point, a security guard showed up, making it seem more like an actual, unabandoned prison. But no more.\r\n\r\nNow, the long corridors, partially furnished rooms, and spooky, glass roof terrace all contribute to a general feeling that I am on a large naval or cruise ship. I am a sailor. My cabin is one, but there are many. There is no wi-fi on my floor, but they\u2019re working on it. There is a small playpark next door that I didn\u2019t realize was there. Frankly, it is OK.\r\n<h2>The room<\/h2>\r\nWhat\u2019s in a room? Well, as the international student experience of CPH Studio Hotel has clearly demonstrated, it really depends on the room.\r\n\r\nLike many others, my room was not ready when I arrived at CPH Studio Hotel. I shared a room for a couple of nights with a good friend of mine - a reasonably enjoyable, if inconvenient, experience that for me was more or less alleviated by the promise of EUR 200 compensation. After that, I was shuttled into various rooms I didn\u2019t stay in, on account of being out too late, and finally I was given my room.\r\n\r\nWhen I was young, I had a shared bedroom with my younger sister. There was a bunkbed. One particular night terror involving sleep paralysis and the ghost of E.T. had, then, long since taught me the perils of sleeping on the top bunk, close to the ceiling, where you\u2019re only one sit-up from faceplanting a plaster stalagtite.\r\n\r\nThus it was so that I signed up to the \u2018A\u2019 bed in my shared room - the one on the futon by the window.\r\n\r\nAlthough the windows had no blinds and the sun was in my face all day and night, I luckily had brought a sleepmask along to Denmark from where I had lived before, where it was necessary to cover my eyes from perpetual sunlight. The sleepmask system worked great, until one of the builders accidentally vacuumed it up. He was very worried, but sleepmasks are cheap and Hoovers are powerful. I went and bought another. I still have no blinds.\r\n<div class=\"dme-external-teaser dme-external-teaser-3\">\r\n<div class=\"title\">\r\n<div class=\"label\">Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/uniavisen.dk\/en\/media-students-cant-register-address-at-krimsvej-dorm\/\">Media: Students can't register address at Krimsvej dorm<\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"teaser_text\"><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2>The utilities<\/h2>\r\nThe bathroom is exceptionally ill-designed. A concrete wetroom housed in an MDF cardboard box, the ventilation system does not really cope with the pretty obvious problem that condensation poses for wood. (Look it up.) The sink is too small for my giant face. The water does not really flow downhill to the drain - it just sits there. However, yesterday\u2019s recent discovery of a SECRET CABINET BEHIND A MIRROR (!) made things much better. Now I feel like Toothpaste James Bond.\r\n<div class=\"dme-external-teaser dme-external-teaser-3\">\r\n<div class=\"image\">\r\n<div class=\"dme-image dme-image-center dme-image-preset-0\">After being promised a kitchenette, it was rather underwhelming to discover that, in Denmark, ''kitchenette'' translates to a single, electric hotplate; some pans; a fridge; an MDF frame\/desk\/thing; and cutlery. I really like to cook, so this isn\u2019t ideal - although we have been promised extra hotplates.<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\nHowever, it\u2019s not all so bad. After I vacuumed the dust from the room and proceeded to spruce it up with some useless, colourful tat from a popular emporium of plastic nonsense, my room actually began to feel a bit like an actual, real place. For example: I have a rug now. This is unprecedented. A real rug of my very own \u2013 and it really does tie the room together. There are many people out there who do not have their very own rugs in their very own building site units, and I feel marginally lucky.\r\n\r\nAs well as this: the blank, alienating grey expanse of the room is a real canvas for whichever false illusions you may have about how that colour-change LED Buddha statue you bought from Tiger just says so much about you. Make it your own - it isn\u2019t as terrible as it seems.\r\n<h2>Verdict: 3\/5 \u2013 It\u2019s getting better all the time<\/h2>\r\nOkay, so the rooms are austere. There are strange, although pleasant men with machines, who wake you up at odd hours with their reasonably quiet door-knocking. You feel like you\u2019re sneezing a bit more than usual because of the dust. The sun is in your face the whole day and night. Worst of all, you have to live in a building site full of people who have clearly never slept anywhere worse than a building site.\r\n\r\nHaving said that, let\u2019s look on the bright side. The sun is out, sometimes. LIDL is just around the corner. Living next to the metro station makes you feel geographically relevant. There\u2019s a very pleasant beach nearby. You could be sleeping under a bridge. You could be sleeping on the cold, concrete patio of a cricket ground with a single duvet between 5 of you. You could be 14 years old again. You could be dead.\r\n<div class=\"factbox\">\r\n<p class=\"factbox-header feature-color\">Dorms disclosed<\/p>\r\nThere are loads of dormitories, kollegiums, and student residences in Copenhagen, yet most of the information available is in Danish.\r\n\r\nSome are small, old houses with pretty gardens, others are giant concrete buildings with tiny windows.\r\n\r\nThis is a review by a student reporter. When do we ever get what we pay for? Have you ever paid for a holiday? Rented a car from a strange man who demands you just ''leave the cash on the front seat after you\u2019re done''? Have you ever been to a Sting concert? Been to British university? These sorts of terrible rip-offs are the things that bring people together. I\u2019ve seen people giving each other beds for the night, lending them useless thumbtacks, and giving them bed linen. I\u2019ve seen friendships forged in the fire of an unfinished building. I\u2019ve seen things.\r\n\r\nLet me tell you, you will never get a refund from Sting - just a cold, hard, toothy smile. CPH Studio Hotel, on the other hand, is a shining beacon of effort and hard work - supremely inadequate and sluggish hard work, but hard work nonetheless. Moaning is not going to speed anything up. I am sure the staff and Housing Foundation people are just as stressed, annoyed, and worried about the construction delays as you are. Have you seen them lately? They look exhausted.\r\n<h2>Not the staff's fault<\/h2>\r\nTo be honest, the passive-aggressive Facebook comments made by some affected residents, accusing the staff, who are trying to improve the situation as best they can, of everything from wholly deliberate deception, up to and including fraud, illegal contractual violations (with some truth), and being totally evil, demonstrates a clear lack of empathy and understanding with the people who, while having perhaps played a major unintentional role in your mild, short-term discomfort, are the only five or so people who are doing anything to try and help a collection of 300-odd people all with their own individual problems.\r\n\r\nYes, things suck. Everything is terrible. Life is hard. But to quote Field of Dreams: if you build it, they will come. And if you haven\u2019t really built it, not yet, they will still come - they\u2019re contractually obliged to. Two months\u2019 rent refund and an added cash bonus might not be enough. Maybe we deserve more, but we forget that, in all the mess, that one bright day, we too might have the ghosts of dead baseball players hitting and pitching in our corridors, up against those glass doors.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, you\u2019re having a real experience here, okay? You have an interesting anecdote to tell other people. You have a thing.\r\n\r\n''My house isn\u2019t built yet,'' you say. ''I live in a darkened room without curtains. If you book the room, it is yours.\u00ab\r\n<h3>Soldiers barracks' vibe in the inner city<\/h3>\r\nBaseCamp Copenhagen actually has several locations, but the most coveted is the one that is in a converted barracks in the inner city. There's \u00bba bit of a soldiering vibe about it,\u00ab says Simon Stilling.\r\n\r\n\u00bbMany people don't even understand that this is a residence hall. They think it's some kind of office building or factory,\u00ab Simon Stilling explains. The building is listed as protected due to its historical importance.\r\n\r\n\u00bbIt's not built the way you would normally build a student residence. But it has so much charm over it.\u00ab\r\n\r\nInstead of soldiers, the building is now home to approximately 500 students in 463 rooms with training rooms, laundry facilities and its own cinema. You can hardly not be satisfied with the residence hall\u2019s location just across from the National Gallery of Denmark.\r\n\r\n\u00bbIt is super-central. I'm absolutely certain that people book this because of the location.\u00ab\n<!-- end of module 1 -->\n<h3>Diversity<\/h3>\r\nIt is mostly exchange students that choose to book a room at BaseCamp Copenhagen. The residence hall exploits this international profile by doing 'Culture Nights' inspired by their residents\u2019 country of origin. We want to exploit the fact that there are a lot of people here with different nationalities as a positive.\u00ab\r\n\r\nThe residents also get to know each other in the large communal kitchens and at the monthly Friday bar. But BaseCamp Copenhagen is not a party dorm.\r\n\r\n\u00bbOf course, we encourage people to go to parties and have fun. But this is not the only thing it is about,\u00ab says Simon Stilling. \u00bbYou can easily have social activities that are not about alcohol.\u00ab\r\n\r\nThe dormitory also organises other activities for this reason, like yoga, bathing in the harbour and film nights.
