Social Democrats face battering in city election

Soc Dems heading for their worst election result ever Although Mayor Frank Jensen looks like winning just enough support to hang on to his job the Red/Greens could launch a last-minute challenge

Although the Social Democrat party should be able to keep a grip on the mayor’s office, a new last-minute poll for TV2 shows the party is facing a 5.9 percentage points loss compared to five years ago and could win no more than 24% of the vote in today’s local election, reports Seven59.dk and b.dk.

The far-left Red/Green Alliance looks like being the big vote catcher in the capital with 21 pct., thereby doubling its support at the 2009 election, at the expense of the Socialist People’s Party who could drop from 22 to 12 pct.

Although Social Democrat Mayor Frank Jensen looks like winning just enough support to hang on to his job the Red/Greens could launch a last-minute challenge.

‘Revolution’ if mayor forced to step down

Berlingske’s political analyst Thomas Larsen predicted a ‘revolution’ in Copenhagen if Mr Jensen is forced to step down.

“There’s no doubt that the Red/Greens are going to cause problems during the next term,” he said.
