Orchestra at University of Copenhagen to play film music

Student symphony orchestra SymfUni to play classic themes from movies such as Harry Potter and James Bond

This Sunday, 25 May, you have the opportunity to hear some of your favourite film scores played live by the 50 musician-strong University of Copenhagen’s symphony orchestra. The prices are student friendly – DKK 35 for a student and DKK 80 for a standard ticket if you buy the ticket in advance.

”This concert provides a very good opportunity for people who are not normally into classical music because we will play music from films that almost everyone has seen. They will show movie clips while we play, so it will be very interactive”, says Anne Holm, a German exchange student at UCPH who plays the clarinet in the orchestra.

”And the concert hall at Odd Fellow Palæet is very chic”, says Etienne from France who plays the horn.

Passion for music and team spirit

SymfUni is an amateur orchestra open to everyone at UCPH who is interested in playing classical music. About half the members of the orchestra are exchange students and rehearsals are always in English. Every semester the orchestra plays something different and this spring they have been playing music from films.

Anne Holm is excited about being in the orchestra. ”This is a good opportunity to meet people in a very diverse group. We have a really good team spirit and we had a great orchestra weekend for example”.

Etienne agrees: ”It is about sharing a common passion for music. And then there is often a beer after rehearsal.”
