2,100 university employees ready to race

University of Copenhagen employees get set to race in the annual DHL Relay, beginning 29 August in Fælledparken

Beginning 29 August approximately 2,100 employees from the University of Copenhagen will challenge other teams in the DHL Relay race. The event will take place over the course of five days.

This year over 125,000 people are registered to race in the annual event that has taken place since 1983. And it is not just runners from the university that will go head to head; teams from private organisations and companies in Copenhagen are also competitors in the relay event.

Hundreds of tents will be set up all over Copenhagen’s largest park, Fælledparken, in Østerbro to host the runners and their post-race BBQs, celebrations, and socialising.

Five by five

How does it all work? Teams from the University of Copenhagen are comprised of staff members from various faculties, departments, and offices. Each team will send a runner out, one at a time, to run five kilometres. The timer stops when each of the five team members have completed at total of 25 kilometres.

The race route travels around the perimeter of the park, where spectators will line the path cheering on the runners.

Teams are broken up into six categories: five women, four women and one man, three women and two men, and so on.

The University Post team will run on the evening of the Monday, 29 August at 18:00 in Fælledparken. Come out to cheers us on, if you aren’t registered to run yourself! Remember look for the florescent green shirts.
