Excluding women from decision making and public life can be seen as a form of structural violence that limits women’s ability to shape their own lives and the society around them.
On Friday 5 December from 10.00 to 11.00 at UN City Copenhagen, we will take stock of the global state of women’s participation and leadership. This event is organised as part of the global hashtag#16Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign, and is a collaboration between our office, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Embassy of Finland in Denmark.
The event brings together diverse voices and perspectives on why women’s participation matters — and how inclusive decision making leads not only to more equal societies, but also to increased safety and prosperity.
Speakers and panelists include:
• Katja Pehrman, Ambassador for Human Rights and Disability Inclusion, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland
• Morten Kjaerum, Adjunct Professor, Aalborg University, and affiliated scholar, Raoul Wallenberg Institute
• Marie Kolling, Senior Researcher, Danish Institute for International Studies
• Petrine Louise Johannesen, Danish UN Youth Delegate for Gender Equality and SRHR
The event will also include powerful poetry recitals from the I Was Born A Girl-exhibition, created by Minna Kristiina Pietarinen and co-founded by Peppi Stünkel.
