Big student party Friday at Black Diamond

Two years ago, the organisers got more drama than they hoped for. Last year, and this year, the organisers are going for a more mellow, sexy audio-visual experience. University of Copenhagen students are invited to kick start the semester with dance and drink, live music and visuals on Friday 7 September

Every year, hundreds of UCPH students start the semester in style with a huge party at royal library’s eyecatching building The Black Diamond. The study space of the royal library is transformed into a temporary nightclub for the occasion.

The 2010 party was a chaotic event, with at least 600 people not being admitted entrance, police being called in, and angry students complaining to the University Post afterwards. This year the organisers hope to avoid similar problems. There is an entrance fee of DKK 45.

This year’s theme is seduction »Warm, playful, dark, sexy and of course a lot of fun,« is how the organisers, Students Only!, put it.

There will be danceable tunes from electronic wizard Rangleklods, Lebanese fusion belly dance from Elie El Sultan and the soprano vocals of Idil Alpsoy, all to the mind-bending visuals from Obscura will be projected on a specially produced, paper-thin screen spanning the whole width of The Black Diamond, seven (open) stories high.
