Dean: I hope we can all stand together

The idea is to create one of Europe’s biggest and strongest medical science faculties.

This was the phrase used by Rector Ralf Hemmingsen and Dean Sven Frøkjær to set the agenda in front of a packed auditorium at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The meeting was the fourth in a long day of meetings at the four University of Copenhagen faculties that are slated to be merged from 1 January 2013.

Why should Pharma be with Health?

According to the Rector’s and Dean’s presentation, the merger is an ambitious one. It will give the University of Copenhagen a better opportunity to educate the next generation of pharmaceutical experts, with the added benefit that the merger would establish the University of Copenhagen as a leading university in this area.

Dean of Pharmaceutical Science Sven Frøkjær presented the numbers behind the merger. It would result in 6,000 employees and 14,000 students for the new Health-Pharma Faculty, which has not yet been named, but tentatively spoken of as the ‘Medical Faculty’.

On the power point presentation the question popped up on the board: ‘Why is it good for Pharma to become part of the merged Medical Faculty’.

Lift the task given to us

Rector Ralf Hemmingsen and Dean Sven Frøkjær proffered an answer:

While ensuring that the basic disciplines are kept under the same organisation, for pharmaceuticals, it would enable their expertise to participate in a bigger market place.

Dean Sven Frokjaer appealed to the audience: »I hope, that we can all stand together and lift this task given to us, work together and grow«.
