More free Science in the City

The free and interactive Science in the City festival continues on Wednesday, and throughout the week at the Carlsberg City district, which is separated into seven areas with interactive exhibits, workshops, and presentations.

Solar hammock
In the Discover district, IT meets textiles. You can try out The Alexandra Institute’s hammock that has solar cells sewn into its fabric. While relaxing in the hammock, the solar cells will charge your cell phone!
When: 12.00-14.00. The event is open to the public.

Science meets poetry
Seamus Heaney, Lovecraft, and Edgar Allan Poe: The Engage district, will be home to a series of small lectures on the relationship between science and poetry. A special focus will be put on the connections to Denmark, both in science and in poetry.
When: 10.30-13.30. The event is open to the public.

Is climate engineering completely crazy?
In the Wonder district, the Tyndall Center for Climate Change Research is hosting a debate on the consequences of climate change and ‘the good, the bad, and the completeley wacky ideas for solutions’.
When?12.00-15.00. The event is open to the public.

See Niels Bohr in action
The Garden behind Carlsberg Academy will be hosting the final performance of the play Copenhagen, about the mysterious war-time meeting between Nobel Prize laureates Niels Bohr and German physicist Werner Heisenberg. The play is presented by the English Theatre of Copenhagen, and is weather-dependent.
When: 19.30. The event is open to the public, but pre -registration must be made through www.royalacademy.dk

Science and disarmament: challenges and opportunities
Keynote speech by Ahmed Üzümcü, Turkish diplomat and current Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Creativity in Science
This session discusses how the social environment can encourage creativity and which larger societal and political processes are involved in the creation of stimulating intellectual environments.
Where: Big Carl, Dance Halls, Carlsberg City

Long-time behavior of gas, plasmas and galaxies: theory and mysteries
The speaker at Wednesday’s plenary talk is French mathematician Cédric Villani, known for his work on the theory of partial differential equations and recipient of a Fields medal in 2010.

When: 18.00-19.00
