Free food and giveaways from Green Campus

Sustainability group Green Campus is hosting an eco-friendly food, talks and music event at Studenterhuset and is fishing for new volunteers

The University of Copenhagen’s (UCPH) sustainability group is holding a fun ‘EcoBazaar’ at Studenterhuset on Wednesday 20 November.

“We would like to raise awareness among students and teach them how not to waste energy” explains Susi Konrad, student volunteer at Green Campus.

The ‘EcoBazaar’ “will be a buzzing afternoon of stalls, giveaways, presentations, music and free planet-friendly food!” says Annie Cao, another student volunteer.

Free meet-and-eat with good music

Besides short presentations from the representatives of partnering organizations (e.g. Greenpeace, WWF, Friends of the Earth Denmark, Culture Futures Club, etc.), the first 100 arrivals will receive free vegan and organic food. The organisers say that if you want a food-voucher, you have to arrive on time.

But even if you are unlucky and miss the free dinner, don’t worry! say organisers. They will have plenty of chocolate, cups and smoothies to hand out. Well, for delicious smoothies you may have to cycle a bit on the “Smoothie Bike”. You can compete against others for cool prizes, such as recyclable beer cups, too.

Later on, participants can listen to eco-friendly music. The Danish band Farkomplekset will play lots of songs about nature with lyrics such as “The sea washes ashore, leave your imprints while you can (in Danish: Havet skyller ind på land, sæt dine aftryk mens du kan)”.

Be green and leave your imprints

The aim of the event is, besides having fun and pointing out how much energy students waste at the University of Copenhagen, to give a chance for new volunteers to sign up. Students from every field of study are welcome!

“The ecobazaar is a combination. It is an informal event, but it is about serious issues.” says Caroline Drost Jensen, one of the student volunteers. She recommends others to volunteer for Green Campus, and says that it broadens social networks and makes new friends.

Annie Cao agrees: “We have the resources, but we need more students to come up with new ideas.”

EcoBazaar at Studenterhuset takes place at 15.00 on 20 November.
