International students welcomed to the University of Copenhagen. See the new international faces here!
“What is the face of Denmark in the world? I’d like to think it’s Niels Bohr’s” pondered Rector Rector Hemmingsen referring to the famous Danish physicist Friday. He was in front of hundreds of international students gathered in the Ceremonial Hall in Frue Plads.
“Even though nowadays I suspect it might be Sarah Lund, or even that girl who won the Eurovision,” he continued, referring to the Danish detective from the popular TV series.
Rector welcomed the new crop of students and stressed the commitment of UCPH to become a more international study and work place.
In the last ten years, the number of international students has doubled, while the number of international researchers has more than tripled, he said.
After the speech, the infamous handshakes were taken care of and the students roamed to the nearby courtyard, where they were treated to beer, pølser (danish hot dogs) and pink cupcakes directly from the hands of Prorector Thomas Bjørnholm and Dean John Renner Hansen.
