The University of Copenhagen is about to cut admissions to the Faculty of Humanities by a quarter as a result of the government's relocation plan. But this is just the latest jaw-dropping development in a decade of bad news for the humanities. See the timeline here.
13 were told they had lost their jobs, including 2 offered part time, at the Faculty of Humanities during a round of layoffs on 8th May. A further 24 staff accepted voluntary redundancy. Staff representative says the process has gone on for too long and that it has negatively affected the working environment. Students fear that the cuts will lead to cuts in the course offering. But the dean dismisses their fears.
After a month of uncertainty, it is now clear how many staff are to be fired at the natural history museum. Staff representatives express disappointment in their management. It has failed them, they say.
He was one of the 209 fired from the University of Copenhagen in February last year. But Johan Olsen still works here – now on external funding. He talks about being bitter and grateful at the same time, and on what is missing in his life after getting the sack.
