UCPH's scientific papers rank as the 22nd best in the world

The National Taiwan University Ranking for 2016 places the University of Copenhagen amongst the best in the world. The ranking is unique, in that it is only focused on evaluating the performance of scientific papers.

According to the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU) for 2016 , the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is in the top 22 universities in the world. The UCPH has moved up three places from its 2015 ranking where it occupied the 25th position.

The ‘Performance Ranking for Scientific Papers for World Universities’ also known as the NTU Ranking is released by the National Taiwan University. It provides an overall ranking, ranking by six fields, and ranking by fourteen selected subjects. The ranking was first published in 2007.

In the field of agriculture UCPH ranks 9th, while ranking as the 6th best in the world in the subject Agricultural Sciences. The university is 20th in the field of Life Sciences, and 25th in the subject Environment/Ecology. Unique, but not a substitute for other rankings

According to their website the aim is to give an accurate and objective assessment for the research performance of universities: »Through examining long-term academic performance and short term research effort, we look forward to providing a more objective ranking as a reference for the diverse research performance of universities worldwide.«

What makes the ranking unique is that it is only focused on evaluating the performance of scientific papers.

According to the NTU website, the ranking system evaluates the performance of scientific papers, and the indicators are designed to compare both the quality and the quantity of scientific papers from each university, from both long-term and short-term perspectives.

However, since the focus of the ranking is on the quality and the quantity of scientific papers and not on other parameters, they are clear about the fact that the NTU Ranking cannot replace other university rankings.

»The ranking does not indicate universities’ overall performance in teaching, research and administrative activities.«
