Polynomials: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Talk — Every second Tuesday during lunch a DIKU researcher gives a presentation of a selected research topic. The lecture series will give you an insight into DIKU's research areas, motivate you to follow your interest in computer science and prepare you for choosing a subject for your bachelor's project.

On Tuesday 3rd of December from 12.15-13.00 in Small UP1, Tong Chen from the ML section will speak at DIKU Bits.

Bring your lunch, your fellow students, and join us when Tong Chen dives into polynomials.

Neural networks and gradient descent are widely known as the dynamic duo of deep learning. But what if we told you there’s another way to solve these tasks? In this talk, Tong Chen will introduce you to a new combo: polynomials and semidefinite programming. From classification to shape approximation, you’ll discover how these tools can work their magic, and where they might fall short. Curious about the good, the bad, and the unexpected? Join Tong Chen to explore a fresh perspective on deep learning!

DIKU Bits is the perfect place to spark your inspiration, fuel interests, and get closer to research at DIKU. Whether you are considering a project out of scope, want to get inspired for an upcoming bachelor project or thesis, or simply find the topic exciting, this is the perfect opportunity for you to expand your horizons.
