The photos from the Spring Festival are here

Party time — Thousands of UCPH students and employees partied together accompanied by Sort Sol, CHINAH and Bikstok, when UCPH's Spring Festival returned after last year's festival was cancelled due to cuts. We sent out two photographers to document the rebirth. See if they found you.

»Ditte!« a young woman shouts – extremely loudly, considering that Ditte is standing right next to her.

It’s 4.30 in the afternoon. The two law students are standing in front of the stage in Det Fede Telt (The Cool Tent) and the sudden outburst is caused by the fact, that Ditte is on her way to win The University Post’s Kuizmaster-quiz and the unofficial and definitely non-protected title of Copenhagen University’s smartest.

A couple minutes later the organizers gently guide the girls down from the stage before they shower all the technical equipment with their victory-champagne.

These girls are not the only ones to leave this year’s Spring Festival with a good feeling in their bodies.

»The general sense is, that it has been a success,« the festival’s organizer and CEO of the Student House Jacob Ørum says, when we call him Monday morning. »We are particularly happy that we succeeded in getting a lot of people to show up for the afternoon activities.«

Next year’s festival can be even better

This year’s Spring Festival marked the rebirth of what should have been an annual tradition that gathers UCPH’s employees and students across institutes and faculties.

The first festival was in 2014, and the second one brought in more than 15,000 students and employees for beer, music and science in the University Park. But when UCPH had to cut 300 mil. kr. as part of the government’s Finance Act 2016, the Spring Festival was the first to be cut away by the university’s management.

Now the festival is back in action, though – and the 2017 edition featured musical performances at three different stages and a party that lasted until 2 am, when Dokkeldal from Den Sorte Skole left the big Totem stage.

Even though Jacob Ørum is satisfied with the way things went down – especially the 300 volunteers that came in and worked in the bars and as stagehands – there is still room for improvement:

»We can definitely get better at engaging even more of UCPH’s associations – especially among the staff. They can expect to hear from us within a not too distant future.«
