Cheers and hoorays for new English-language media

Dignitaries trooped up to cut the ribbon on the new University of Copenhagen online media

At a makeshift ceremony, representatives of university management, staff and students officially launched the new English and Danish online media Tuesday. The Danish-language Universitetsavisen is now supplemented by an English-language section and web versions in both languages.

Rector Ralf Hemmingsen cut the ribbon flanked by chairman of the Student Council Mattias Friis Jørgensen and Poul Erik Krogshave, vice chairman of the staff co-operation body Hovedsamarbejdsudvalget.

»I am happy to officially open the electronic version of the newspaper«, he said, adding that, »I want to emphasize how positive it is that we now have an English-language section of the newspaper. This means that we have two things to celebrate at the same time«, he said.

High hopes

Staff representative Poul Erik Krogshave said that he »hopes and expects that what we have agreed concerning the development of the Universitetsavisen is something that the electronic version can live up to«.

Student Council chairman Mattias Friis Jørgensen noted that the new media was «well-linked to other social media, something that is not possible in the printed version«.
