Denmark no. 4 on cocaine abuse ranking

DANISH NEWS - The report comes out just as Danish police revealed they seized 310 kilograms of ‘unusually high purity’ cocaine

Denmark has the 4th highest rate of cocaine use in Europe, a new EU report indicates – UK is no.1 followed by Spain and Ireland. France and Holland share 4th place with Denmark, writes seven59.dk and b.dk.

The report was published Tuesdaay just as Danish police revealed they seized 310 kilograms of ‘unusually high purity’ cocaine last June in Esbjerg, leading to six arrests in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Street value of USD 131 million

Police spokesman Brian Voss Olsen said if the cocaine had been cut to up to 1.2 tons of powder it would have an estimated street value of up to DKK 900m (USD 131m).

He said none of those arrested were Danes but one suspect had already been extradited to Denmark and more would follow.

Drug abuse expert Henrik Rindom said cocaine has become ‘massively popular’ amongst all social groups, including those not normally associated with addiction.

“It’s easy to get hold of and can be found everywhere,” he said. “And unlike other drugs it’s popular on all levels of society, from prostitutes to bank managers, doctors and lawyers.”
