Hans Christian Andersen, Kierkegaard, and … McDonalds

If it is good enough for University of Copenhagen alumnus, heavy-thinker Søren Kierkegaard and the fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen ... it is probably good enough for McDonalds

Copenhagen’s famous A Porta eatery at Kongens Nytorv 17, next to the Magasin department store, has served the famous fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen and the philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, since it opened in 1792.

From today Friday, it’s the home of the latest Danish branch of the McDonalds fast-food chain, reports Seven59.dk and b.dk (in Danish here).

It has been closed down since being ravaged by storm in 2011.

Pleased to bring it back to life

Head of communications at the American fast-food giant, Sara Helweg-Larsen, said management thought long and hard about the interior design of the historic site.

»It was important for us to create a modern interpretation of the location and all the history it represents, and to break with the traditional decor of our restaurants«.

»We are pleased to have the opportunity of bringing life back into this magnificent building,« she says.
